Dear all,

During the recent spell of cold weather here in (otherwise)sunny Croydon http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif, i had severe clutch judder when taking up the drive in 1st for quite a while until the car was properly warm. This has happened only one more time since.

I read in True Grip (Yes PC, finally got it!!)that spark plugs breaking down can cause this.

How likely is this in my case or should i disregard as a one-off?. How do i check the plugs if so?

I occasionally get clutch judder on cold, wet days. It's almost like pulling off in 5th gear.

My dealer advised that it was due to the material used in the linings which is designed to resist the abuse they are subjected to. They offered to fit a new clutch under warranty with a softer material, which would obviously wear more quickly. I declined, as I am not bothersd about it if it's "just one of those things", rather than an actual fault. It also does not happen very often.

I think most if not all MY99 do have clutch judder to a certain degree. well, mine does it. bill young's car 5dr MY99 also does it. it does not seem to be serious and it does not bother me as much as it used to. I have taken it to 2 dealers one did not think there was a problem and it was all in my head (I obviously don't go there any more ). the other dealer heard it but thought it was some vibrating tube in the engine responding to a certain frequency. to check it out they wanted the car for couple of days to check the clutch. but I could not be bothered with that. if any thing goes the warranty will cover it.

seriously every now and then mine does it too. A quick dump at 6000rpm should do the trick !

PS finally got a new lambda sensor..took scoobysport all afternoon to get the old one out - should have seen it !!

I was reliably informed that the clutches do tend to judder a little when the car is cold but as soon as they are warmed up then it disappears. This information was given to me by the technician at my local dealer last week whilst I was there with my locking hand brake problem. If the clutch still judders when the car is warm then you do have a problem.

I got my clutch replaced by my dealer under warranty, no problems since http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

I had exactly the same problem with my 98MY. Having read the FAQ I thought it was just one of those things and put up with it. My wife took the car in for its service and complained about it(she is the main driver) and as soon as the Service Manager drove it he told us to book it in. The Scoob had the complete works, Flywheel included, replaced and instantly was so much better to drive. I too was told generally the cars that are abused do not suffer from this problem. For those "putting up with it" I can recommmend thinking again and pestering your dealer. Having driven Integrales,Co**orths and a Skyline I'm not sure the Scoob clutch should have the judder problem as "standard", Firefox prove me wrong...
Anyway well done Sparshatts of Botley for an excellent Service department.

MY00 suffers slightly when cold but is fine when warmed up. Don't know if its the clutch (most likely) or the spark plug (never did understand that one), going to get the dealer to have a look at next service.

Also heard that a full bore start cleans things up, don't know if it works but I reckon its a fun way to find out, I'll let you know

MY99 5 door had the clutch and flywheel replaced at 7.5K service without any bother - the dealer just accepted what I'd said so I guess it's well known. The judder had started at about 6K. Now at 14K and guess what? the judder is back. I've given it a deglaze blast and this seems to have fixed it for now.

My 98 Terzo does it hot and cold, especially in traffic. Also has anyone had this problem, when in traffic or idle for a semi long period of time (London Commuting) the clutch pedal goes very stiff and acts about 1 cm depression, if you floor it during this time the clutch slips, drive normal for about 5 minutes and alls well again. Any idea's ?
