What's the legal requirement re: number plates in the UK? Do we need plates on front and back, or is it just on the back? I had this nagging doubt that it was only a requirement for the back of the car, did I dream that, or am I thinking of some US states?

Front and back
Bugger. Thought so. Cheers, scoob_babe... I was just thinking how much better the car would look without the front plate, that's all. Never mind...
get an adhesive one for the front lip instead ?
You mean a normal plate mounted elsewhere, or a reg number 'plate'/image that's wrapped round the corner of the bumber edge? Do you have a link to a pic of what you're describing?
I don't have a pic of the car I'm talking about but the guys who I know have them post under the name of 'Stealth' and 'Gossythevaleter'
That looks pretty good actually. I wonder if that style of plate 1/ is fully legal and 2/ makes reading the plate difficult for speed cameras etc.?
not sure but Gossy (not that particular car owner) will be here later - will ask him
If you take off the original plate mount, then you have no where to mount your plate vertically, therefore you must choose to mount your plate in where it is closest to vertical. This give you the choice of the front lip, like the car in the pic and my car. Perfectly legal ;)

Is it true then that motorbikes need only a rear plate?
If so, that means that they won't be identified by Truvelo or SPECS cameras. That's discrimination, and we should take the govt. to the European court over this... ;) I'm off back to the hutch now... :D |
That point about motorbikes seems to be true (at least if you trust the following source...). I was reading about that this afternoon on http://www.ukspeedtraps.co.uk/specs.htm. Definitely descriminatory.

Is there a minimum size for sticky on ones like there is for standard plates? Got a picture of the scoob rally car on the wall in front of me, and the plate looks suspiously small..
The sticky plates should be the same size and have the same spacing as a standard plate to avoid police interest. Call this number and speak to Jon:
