Also the Elise is the 111s so it has 160bhp not 120bhp if I remember.... Boxster has always had fantastic reviews in every magazine, universally praised. As Evo magazine says "some people actually despise Boxsters but we think they have never driven one. Try the standard one, a near perfect blend of power and control"
I did and ended up buying one, Love it to death... but straight line speed is NOT its forte!!!

Yeh i too raced a boxster and toasted it in my MY01 WRX 220bhp. Also had an old shape 911 but it must ahve been thrashed. Come to think of it i recently had a new shape one to. He floored it as i came up behing him and i stayed with him right up to 100mph at which point he gave up and let me pass him. He looked at me with surprise as i passed. Dont fancy my chances with them though really.

That's kinda like asking if anyone has raced a Mitsubishi; some are slow, some are 'kin quick.
I've had a Porsche right through since 1994, 2 911's, a 944 S2 and 4 944 Turbos.
I realise you probably mean newer stuff, but the two 911's (a '76 and an '85) were much the same performance wise and noticeably (but not drastically) quicker than a late UK Impreza classic.
Of the 944's, the S2 (3.0 16V 4cyl) felt slowest, but I have raced the one I owned with the Turbo I bought after it and they were pretty even up to 150 where we ran out of road (private, of course, ahem).
Strangely the oldest turbo I had (with 220 bhp rather than 250bhp seemed quicker than the later ones, and quicker than the 911's. 944 turbo's have superb gearing and will do 140 in 4th.
My current turbo is in bits just now (I holed the sump) but had £11k worth of tweaks including turbo, induction (hot film MAF to replace the flap type meter) TiAL wastegate, intercooler+holes to feed it, head work, custom ECU's etc. On the RR it was impossible in 3rd and lit up its 265's every run at just over 280bhp with the plot climbing strongly and 1,500 rpm to go in 4th. Torque was 415Nm and lag was non-existent. I haven't been in a really well tuned Scooby, but that car would waste most things on the road in a straight line, and not much would live with it in the twisties (although a Scooby would).
I spent so much on servicing that the Exeter Porsche dealer took me to Thruxton last year to drive most of the 2001 range. The 2.7 Boxster (and there are 2.5's out there too) was sloooooow (the bloke who did my mods says hist Transit is quicker than a Boxster!). Even the Boxster S wasn't very quick. The 911 was much better, but somewhere between a standard and my modded 944 turbo.
I'm also in the Porsche Club and went to Le Mans with them this year. I travelled in my first 944 turbo (my mate has it now) in convoy with a friend's 993 (last of the air-cooled 911's) turbo. On the way back we saw 160+ and the 993 was leaving us, showing 189 max as it turned out, and it is 4wd and has massive brakes; you will not beat one of these in a Scooby if the Porsche driver tries.
That's the big difference; Porsches generally top 160, not 140, and they also generally have the best brakes on the road for any given generation of vehicle.
Bottmom line is that some of them couldn't keep up with your granny driving your Scoob and others can destroy your best Colin McRae impression so don't get too cocky just because you beat something with a Stutgart crest, and remember: laugh at Boxsters; they're sad.

Oh, forgot to say; in my first 911 (the '85 one) I was comprehensively embarrassed at Knockhill by a Caterham, so Westie's may be quicker than you give them credit for...

Being the scooby newbie I guess its safe to say that if a porshe boxter comes wide the rear view I can put my foot down with a bit of confidence...Waaheeeey!!!

I bought a new 2001 Boxster 2.7 and was very disappointed with both performance and build quality! My old UK300 would have easily out performed it (but it had more power so it should).

Had some fun with a new 911 in my STi7. From a standing start up to 155mph, when my speed limiter kicked in!

There was nothing in it, to about 80 I was pulling away from him, about 400yrds then the gap stayed the same until 155mph.

He finally turned off, flashed and gave me the thumbs up.

Followed a 964 Carrera all the way from home to Bentwaters (then around the track :D ). I closed up through the roundabouts, but he couldn't get away on the straights either :eek:

My MY99 with a full decat had no probs in seeing off every Boxster S I ever came across.....

Now with TEK2.5, full decat, samco hoses, K&N induction from standing start at traffic lights there was no difference in mine to a new 911 (996) Carerra 4, two different ones, same weekend ;). Mine was running like crap too - boost was only 14.5Psi at the time - now running 17 and much quicker so I imagine I'd pull away now. Ones I came across were really trying too - followed me to the lights for standing start then turned round to go back the other way afterwards :rolleyes: So they try it on just as we do!! :D

Boxters - No problem both the standard one and the S don't keep up but give a bit of a good fight. I haven't come across one quicker yet. However I am sure that there quicker porkers out there GT2 etc. One of the best drivers cars I owned was a 968 sport. I do like porkers. But recon Boxters are a bit of all mouth and no trousers.

Bedford autodrome - RMA track day.

Against my half sorted STi - most 911s were left for dead. On the day the only cars were a 993 Carrera RS - very well driven - excellent in the corners, slow on the straights. A 996 Turbo - that was quicker on the straights - 5 cars lengths over the 1km straight at around 145mph, Scooby caught up in the corners.

There was a genuinely quick pork there - a GT2 - crap driver tho.

In a straight line already rolling nothing in it to high speed compared to a recent model Carerra. Similar with a new M3. 20 PSI on biggish VF hybrid turbo - I guess about 320-330 BHP at PE. Also found that a lot of motorbikes are not too much trouble, but I don't know how to spot the really quick ones.

Yep, tried it on with a 911 carrera in the 3-door with my mate in his cossie saff. He was on german plates so it was a matter of national pride that we went after him :D I lifted at ~@* mph but my mate went onto (&$mph before backing off. Not much in it really. He was very game though.

I have a 44obhp saff cosiie with 400 lb/ft of torque built by GGR and have yet to find a Porsche that is even a remote challenge. I can absolutely decimate a 911 turbo thay look like they are going backwards. EVO's are an absolute doddle too still I suppose I have a fifty percent power advantage.

Jeezuz, it ain't rocket science. Regardless of make or model, the car with the bigger bhp/torque and least weight (amongst other things like gearing/traction/cda figure, etc) will go faster.

thats right isnt it a shame that you cant get any decent power from the scooby or Evo lumps they really are rather slow and underpowered. 280 bhp is hardly going to make for a rapid vehicle

I had one of the old shape 911's (was on a v reg i think) try it on just after id come back from having my scoob sorted due to loss of boost at the top end of its range :(

dont bother racing the GT2,i overtook a car on a b road on my ZX6R,the GT2 behind me passed the first car and me like we were standing still,and i was on full throttle!!

This knobs cozzie would thrash a GT2 tho, I would much rather drive a sierra cozzie than a GT2, he must be the pride of his estate :rolleyes:

cossie lumps have been tuned to in excess of 800bhp
500 brake with over 490lb/ft is reliable.
A porsche is not quick neither is a scooby.

The Escort and 4by4 saff came with 227bhp for £600 you can have 350bhp with reliablity. 803,s 3 bar map sensor and chip with better fuel economy.

performance figures for my particular car are as follows they are not guestimates but timed down santa pod strip
O-60 3.67 sec
0 - 100 9.2 secs
standing quarter 12.2 secs so pretty rapid
My car is almost 100 percent facter than a new shape scooby and 25 percent quicker to 100 than an evo. These figures do not do justice to the cars drivabilty and usabilty everyday if the car was fitted with proper launch control better times could be had but that would take the fun out of it.
I am not interested in the image of the vehicle at all only the performance potential.
Seeing as though they depriciate far slower than a scooby obviously they are still more desirable.
A 50,000 quid P1 can be had for 20,000
An 18,000 RS 500 is still £15,000 twenty years later so obviously is more desirable and carries a better image as the resicual values would reflect.
Seems strange that I could sell my car for more than a nearly new scooby strange that.
