Right here is my situation.....

I am after a number plate that was registered in 1980. As far as I am aware, it was on a 90cc Blue Honda Motorbike/Moped thing. This information was obtained from a HPI check.

Secondly, a friends friend http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif who works for a certain establishment (that have been moaned about once or twice on here http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif) checked for me and has told me that the plate I want is not currently registered.

I've spoken to the DVLA and their sale of marques scheme only deals with plates that have not been previously registered (so I was told).

So fellow Scoobynetters...how the hell do I find where this plate currently is http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/confused.gif

I haven't got a clue, and anyone that can help me find it, may find themselves very pissed down the pub on my behalf http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

1980? W-reg? Not difficult to work out what it is, is it? http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

I wondered about getting CAR 105W but in the end it isn't worth the hassle. I think your best bet would be to get someone like Elite Registrations to sort it out -- I'm sure they have contacts (although there may be a substantial price attached to it).

Hmmm that is what I was worried about. Would much sooner find the said vehicle if it has been scrapped, buy it for 50 quid and transfer it myself http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Don't want to end up paying £££s for this so am trying to do it as cheaply as possible.

I have emailed one of the number plate companies telling them the situation as mentioned above but have heard absolutely nothing back http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif

FYI the plate is HAN510W and you're right, it wasn't hard to work out what it was http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/tongue.gif

If anyone knows its whereabouts...LET ME KNOW! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Anybody else got any ideas ???

Sorry to disappoint, but .....

To be able to transfer the plate the original vehicle has to be roadworthy (or at least have a current MOT). So, if you find your dream plate, it may cost a bit more than your expecting.

Good luck!

Hanslow 06 July 2001 09:13 PM

Bummer!

Then again.....how much would it cost to get a 90cc back on the road again ? http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Think this is going to turn into my personal Holy Grail.....

Why are the laws in this country so crap ? http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/rolleyes.gif

Short of hiring a private investigator http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/rolleyes.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif I think I'm scuppered.....

Unless there are any more bright ideas?

Out of interest (and being totally unhelpful to Mr. Hanslow!), is there any way one can go about obtaining a specific previously unregistered plate? The SOM scheme auctions off plates I believe, but presumably only ones they think a few people would be interested in. Is this wrong?

By the way - can anybody guess what plate I want?

I'm into old cars as well as Scoobys (and I don't mean MY93's http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif LOL). There is a problem with these of people "borrowing" reg numbers by claiming to have "found" the original vehicle.

If you were "lucky" http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif enough to find the original vehicle, despite the fact that the VIN number / engine number etc were difficult to see, there have been cases where this has got the original number back. This has been despite the fact that the original car - with VIN, chassis number, engine number etc has turned up later - and the new owner of the number has been allowed to keep it. An example of this is owned now by a certain tyre manufacturer whose name I guess I shouldn't mention to avoid the moderators, but Roald Dahl had a character like him! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

I've no idea how this could help, but thought you might like to know! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Tried that newreg site for my own reg - unfortunately it doesn't appear to be accurate for either my own or a number of other registrations that I know the origination of http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif
