Does anyone know if it's possible to re-register control panel components? The 'Add/Remove Programs' bit on our Win2K Server doesn't want to do anything at all?? I really don't want to have to re-install :(

Any ideas/suggestions appreciated!

Not really - probably easier to manually hack out the software you want to uninstall. What is it btw?

i read in theregister you can get extra stuff with SP3. dunno if works with your problem.

how about TweakUI? does that work with W2K server?

Well, we've been trialling GFI MailSecurity (which IMO is pretty poop!) and when we came to get rid, I couldn't open Add/Remove at all?

I could delete the program dir and then wade through the registry, but I'd rather avoid that task if poss!

Forgot about TweakUI actually! That used to have an option to repair Control Panel icons didn't it! I'll give it a bash. (Oh, and yes, it does work in 2K Server)

Ok, two things...
Firstly, I was wrong about TweakUI - the repair option is just if shortcuts, etc are displaying the incorrect icon.

Secondly, everytime I double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon, as mentioned, nothing appears to happen. However, I just looked on Task Manager and everytime I try to start Add/Remove jobby the following process gets started:

mshta.exe

Each one uses ~2,600K??

This seems a bit odd to me? Anyone else come across this?

control panel components have a .cpl extension, try searching for them and right click on the required one to try and run it.

Ah, thanks anyway. I'm fairly sure there's no difference with the cpl's but just in case...

Hmmn, that's daft!

I tried using sfc as per the kb article. All this does is run the Windows File Protection jobbie and reverts any different files back to the original - anyway, whilst doing this it asks for the original Win2K server cd...

We run SBS2000 and Win2K Server is on Disc One - guess what, sfc obviously doesn't understand SBS (even though 2K server is on the CD) and it doesn't allow you to browse through to the file location (i386 for example) - Bugger!

Any more ideas? :(
