Hi all,

Im over from the GTIR list (booo i hear you cry) well I went to 10 of the best and was impressed with some of the scoobies there and wondered what sort of power they had, I think the top 2 guys were Mark Aigin and Micheal White. I ran for the GTIR club got a 14.13 with low boost tried upping the boost but it wouldnt took my turbo of the next day and there was a nice big crack across the wastegate leaking all my lovely boost out(bummer).

Anyway repect to you guys, some quick times there

Cheers

Surry

Plantie 13 August 2002 09:07 AM

Surry not a bad time at all....

Mark and Michael came 1st and 2nd in our class...

I was unofficially 3rd :( I ran 14.48 @ 112mph to be told it was after the 3:30.

In the top speed Tim W came first with 166.6mph (.6 for Tim ;) )
with me second at 163mph.

Powerwise Tim is running 346 ish, Mark - you'd have to ask him, Mike - not sure, Nito - not sure and me at around 320ish+ at a guess.

All cars are standard if not heavier.

So what sort of power are you ruinning??

P20SPD 13 August 2002 09:28 AM

You would be the GTIR that looked pretty quick on the drag runs and pretty smooth? Good time.

Surry 13 August 2002 09:31 AM

Plantie, power is a tough one as the boost really was crap and very late coming on ie about 4500rpm, Max boost was 1.3 when i usually run 1.6 so the car felt slow on the day. I would say once the boost was on power was around the 330 mark but when upchanging i was dropping out of the boost range and therfore had to wait for the car to come back onto full boost.

A couple of days after 10 of the best my HKS GT3037 which supports 450+ crank hp, all the other bits are in place to support this so i cant wait to get it on and setup. Just my rods i want to change before 450+ is achieved.

Cheers, what a great day it was hey.

P20SPD, I was the one with two plates on the back one "GTIROC" and my normal plate at the bottom in the bumper, due to my smooth boot ending up looking like a bag of ****e.

Cheers

P20SPD 13 August 2002 09:44 AM

Ahh i know the one now.

Surry 13 August 2002 09:48 AM

Another thing i forgot to ask was any ideas (estimates) on how much to knock off to find the 1/4 mile time say i did 14.13 over 500m at 116 it think it was, any ideas roughly what this would be over the quarter. Maybe low 12's?

Cheers

David_Wallis 13 August 2002 10:23 AM

surry... what gearbox have you got?? Not standard  ???

David

Surry 13 August 2002 10:42 AM

gearbox is standard at the moment but i have a 1/2dog gearset sitting in my bedroom waiting to get fitted. The boxes arnt that bad if you take your time on the gearchange, after all i did around 20 runs at 10 of the best most of which i launched the car(if i cruched i just backed out of the run as i didnt want to rip teeth off etc), and the box is still ok and i have a paddle clutch, once the new turbo is on it might be a different story.

Cheers

Pavlo 13 August 2002 10:55 AM

hooorahhh!

finally someone that doesn't own a scooby saying nice things about them.

may the harmony continue...

Plantie 13 August 2002 12:23 PM

Surry,

I too was running a max boost at 1.3 bar... but didn't see this on the 500 m run.... only 1.2bar as in the shorter gears....

Your car sounds good... you got a pic??? Cant say I saw it... Too busy watching the Jet propelled Skylines  ;)

Pavlo 13 August 2002 01:21 PM

did I see a picture of a legacy totally whipping an sti?

was that you being whipped plantie?

and idea of the legacy spec?

Paul

Plantie 13 August 2002 01:27 PM

No mate... didn't get whipped by any Scoob! ;) Ask Nito :D ;)

Not sure on Michaels spec but the only STI it could have been is John Felsteads... that is setup to handle not go fast!! Hence he won the short handling circuit!

P20SPD 13 August 2002 03:47 PM

The legacy whipped alot of cars on the day. It took Marks 3rd run to beat it. Plantie, i am sure you went up against this GTIR, maybe wrong though.

Puff The Magic Wagon! 13 August 2002 04:10 PM

Surry

Were you up against a green 5dr on one of your runs? The 1st of my two was against a GTiR but although I probably got the drop & left like a scalded cat, the GTiR was coming back at the 500m point  Therefore I must've been slower!

I know what my car is good at & its not straightline sprints, so I spent the rest of my time on the handling circuit :D ;)

:)

johnfelstead 13 August 2002 04:17 PM

my car isnt set up to do anything, it's bog standard. :D

I have only 280BHP so wasnt going to set the world on fire on the straightline stuff. The only place i could make any impresion was on the handling circuit, but that was just me in a bog standard STi5 TypeRA showing what can be done with these cars. :D

Surry 13 August 2002 04:22 PM

Puff: Yes you kicked my ass on my first run, i crunced 2nd and then missed 3rd, I was a bit nervous at first(first time at out like this for me). But as you say once i got the power down i was catching. The gear selection in these cars with a abused gearbox (like mine)are very touch and go. I hope to have better selection when the new gearset goes in.

Anyways guys what does the standard box in a turbo feel like and what power can they take just out of curiousity.

Cheers

What an amazing day from all parties involved - Can't wait until next yr..

Rgds,

skiddusmarkus 13 August 2002 04:36 PM

I'm hoping to enter next year in my gtir with a nice new short ratio gearbox(maybe an engine rebuild too) which should help me out on the 0-500m but not the topspeed run.

Puff The Magic Wagon! 13 August 2002 04:54 PM

Surry

Well, I thought I was fast  but 16.03 @ 101 with a t/speed of 135 odd. Shame there was no reaction time stats ;)

JF

Only 280bhp

If that I had so much power  - only 240bhp for me ;)

:p :p

johnfelstead 13 August 2002 05:12 PM

I know puff, but you did have a suspension advantage. I.E It wasnt 30K old fooked fixed damping (damping would have been nice really ;) ) but some nice adjustable LEDA's.

I am sure i had 3 wheels off the ground at one point. ;) LOL

Puff The Magic Wagon! 13 August 2002 05:18 PM

Yes John, but the Ledas done 30K miles too (no rebuild yet) ;)

What about your adjustable diff? Lightweight chasis (comparitive)? Closer ratios?

Guess its more down to just the driver then ;) :p

ustolemyname??stevieturbo 13 August 2002 06:04 PM

Id guess at less than a second difference between the 500m and 1/4. it is only an extra 60m after all, and when you are travelling at 100+mph, that 60m would be covered pretty quickly.
Funny thing about a legacy...you can buy one, modify it, kick ass, and still cost less than most standard imprezas. I did always say legacy's are best :)
Cant wait til next year, we will be back with a few more horses I hope.

Surry 13 August 2002 06:18 PM

I would just like to point out 1 mile = 1609 metres therefore 1/4 mile = around 402 metres so it was actually 98 metres extra not 60 chap. I must admit though i believed you for a minute till i checked.

Cheers

skiddusmarkus 13 August 2002 06:35 PM

1/4 mile=440 yards though.

ustolemyname??stevieturbo 13 August 2002 08:29 PM

OK, I got me numbers a little mixed up, still wouldnt be much over a second I think then..would it?????

johnfelstead 13 August 2002 09:38 PM

i havent a clue what you mean Puff? The package of my car and me driving it was quicker on the day, it's no big deal. If you arent happy with your UK 5 door and Leda's you could of course go buy an STi5 TypeRA and kick my ass next year, maybe you wouldnt, who knows, who cares. :p :D LOL

Nice trophy isnt it. :D

Plantie 13 August 2002 09:39 PM

I am no expert but if we covered 500m in say 15secs then work the the simple maths to begin with... 1/4mile = 400m approx divide the 500m time by 5 and times bye 4 giving you 12.

Then you have to consider that as you go further you cover more distance in less time due to increasing speed... so take some more off... (not go a clue on how to do this accuratley!)

I would therefore think that a 15 second 500m car would run a sub 12 second 1/4 run....

Just my thoughts.... could be way off mind.... ;)

What do you lot think? Sound right???

johnfelstead 13 August 2002 09:46 PM

you have that back to front plantie.

it will be (15/5)*4=12 seconds per 100m at a linear speed.

you cover the last 1/5 faster so you need to add time, its going to be more like 13.5 seconds i would think.

Plantie 13 August 2002 09:49 PM

 oh yeah!!! You do less time at the higher speed!

Cheers John ;) :D
