Well, I bit he bullet yesterday and bought an XBox (as the Summer's now over )

Bought it from PC World(!) - VERY good price and highly recommended!!!:D:D:D:D:D

(Thanks to all those who offered - apologies if I didn't get back in touch though)

My question is this - I bought the XBox primarily as a DVD player for the bedroom, however, my antiquated old portable TV doesn't have ANY AV of any sort - just RF.

If I buy the RF converter, will I be able to watch DVDs without the dreaded Macrovision (I tried it through my VCR upstairs....)

Also - this Enigma chip. Is it worth it? what are your opinions?

Cheers and Thanks in advance,

Dan

Hi mate

How much did you pay and what package did you get ??

IMHO i would get an X-Ecuter chip in the Xbox. Then replace the hard disk for a 120 gig one and play the games off the hard drive :)

The package was -

From PC World - £291

XBox
2 controllers
DVD kit
2 x Games - Project Gotham & Max Payne (got them to change the game that came with it to one I wanted!!!:D:D:D:D)

What's the Xecutor chip then?

Any ideas on this RF thing?

Dan ;)

xecuter chip is the new one, just out this week I think, although they are thin on the ground as always:rolleyes:
druddle pointed me in the right direction when I asked this a few weeks ago, maybe he knows a supplier who has them ?? check out the mrmodchips link.

I would rather buy mine pre-chipped for obvious reasons, but I am also waiting for reviews from this forum:

Can you let me know what your problem is with the Macrovision. The XBox has macrovision on all of its outputs, whether this be RF or anything else. It has to have this to comply with the DVD forum regulations.

The only time that this would be a problem to you was if you were trying to copy DVD's, not playing them back.

Hi Jason,

I haven't got the XBox RF lead - only using the video/Scart lead that comes with it....

My TV upstairs (portable) has no Scart or Video inputs, so I thought I'd use the Scart on my Video (the same connection you would usually use to copy the DVD!) - I presume that's why I am getting the Macrovision.....

Hope that when I get the RF lead, everything should be hunky doory!!!!:D:D:D:D

Waddya think?

Dan :)

The Macrovision is doing exactly what it is supposed to do and that is prevent copying. The RF adaptor for the Xbox will send the signal to the TV and you will have no problems at all. That is what it is designed for.

Essentiall Macrovision reduces the sync pulse on the output so that a TV will accept the signal but nothing else will

Thanks

Jason
