Hey Johno, I've seen a similar "vehicle" a few weeks ago going past Quaffers, this one had pink neons allround the dashboard too! Must admit I did a double take.

Today on the way to work I tried my hardest to keep a straight face as a Scooby scooped and vented red Nova GTE approached from the front. You could see by his face what was thinking "check my bonnet out matey boy cool isn't it!" - "nah boyzie - neither use nor ornament on a Nova!"

Too think I nearly did the same on my last car G60 Corrado in an effort to get some cooling air down on the cylinder head - but -oh yes I saw the light and bought the real thing. The days of modifying and money for old rope are hopefully behind me now, now that I'm "Scoobied"

Nightmare 02 February 2000 12:54 AM

anecdote from a friend.........

down in Southend, escort RS pulls up, huge wing, wheel arches, drainpipe exhaust the works.. He puts it in reverse, and the wheel hubs light up purple!!! Out hops spotty 18 year old, who helps his large, fat, ugly girlfriend out of the passenger side. At this point a voice is heard to call over "Oi mate, if thats the best you can pull its time to get another f***ing car" Lad leaps round ready to do battle, only to be faced with a large group of bikers killing themselves laughing!

Guess he still had his glowing wheel hubs though http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

There's a Clio that knocks around near where I live that has a wing that's come straight off an F1 car... mounted to its roof!!!

I reckon it must knock a good few mph off its top speed and a few m's off its mpg!!

Still - brightens up my day as I always have a good giggle as it drives past!

Yex 02 February 2000 09:01 AM

Saw a Rover 200 (possibly a Tomcat) the other day on the A127, had a boot mounted spoiler that would not have looked out of place on a top fuel dragster. Also looked like the wheels were too big as the suspension had been lowered quite a bit, caused me to slow up and have a look anyway, other half convulsed with giggles http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

A thought always goes through my mind when I see cars like this and the others mentioned above. Why do the owners spend so much money on these "bolt on" extras when surely for the same money they could trade up to a car that performs the way they want without looking like an extra from a Frankenstien movie http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

Any shed with blacked out windows (complete with "air" bubbles).

Come on, I mean, what on EARTH do they think it looks like?!
LOL

bobn3 02 February 2000 09:51 AM

OK, please picture this....

I was driving along the road and suddently in the concer of my eye I see......
a blue mica, complete with gold 13' alloys. and Impreza bonnet scoop. and jet black windows, 3'exhaust... I almost crashed with the tears of laughter in my eyes!

MorayMackenzie 02 February 2000 10:04 AM

There is a Mk 2 fiesta based around Weston-Super-Mare in matt "rally"ish blue with goldish sprayed wheels and a silly exhaust. Makes Bobs Micra seem tasteful!

johnfelstead 02 February 2000 12:07 PM

I was sat at the lights tonight and a MAX POWER special boy racer pulled up behind me.

I allmost died of a heart attack laughing so much, his bloody steering wheel was lit up in bright purple neon.

I missed the lights changing green completely as i draged myself from the footwell after colapsing in agony laughing. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Have any of you seen anything to top that one from the MAXED OUT boys.

cheers

ROSS 02 February 2000 12:16 PM

Didn't manage to catch up with him and find out where he got it? did you I really want one!! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

ROSS 02 February 2000 12:20 PM

Anyone else seen any funnies from the max power brigade? I've seen an XR3i with no less than four 4 inch exhausts hoho! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

AndyMc 02 February 2000 12:42 PM

There is a Fiesta by me that has a box-arch bodykit (all in primer). The arches probably need 9 or 10 inch wheels to fill them, but it is still running on the standard rims.

It looks so funny coming down the road, whats even funnier is that the owner mistakes stares of disbelief for those of admiration.

This also has two 4 inch Billy-big-bore-you-Know-the-score tailpipes.

robman 02 February 2000 01:27 PM

Whatever happened to rear window louvres? They look lovely colour coded white and self-tappered onto the back of a MK3 Escort 1.3 with white painted mirrors and bumpers.

Mate of mine (circa 1987) had a gold Avenger with gold tinted windows and a gold louvre on the back. Door handles were removed and a little keyfob thing opened the doors for you. Obligatory big bore pipe on the back.

However, it did have a Skip Brown prepared motor and was blooming fast in its day.

spence 02 February 2000 02:54 PM

Saw a mk1 fiesta on a trailer in Guildford once that had wheels so big it looked like the owner was attempting to turn it into a monster truck. Haven't seen it since but what a scary though...

Adam M 02 February 2000 03:12 PM

Hate to admit it but I am sure that many "adults" probably think the same when they see a silver imppreza with a whopping wing that impaires vision and 17" gold alloys.

I think its all relative.

I had a tastefully done golf when I was younger, but it only ever looked like a normal GTi.

When you do that to your car, you obviously think it looks cool, so these people are not going to expect people to laugh at them.

On a different note, the owner of a local car audio shop (a real essex man) was proud to display his new car.

All the local spotty xr2 brigade were ooing and aahhhing at the precious XR3i cabriolet with genuine rare rattlesnake body kit (I have no idea). The number plate was
F200 MPH, but I did actually laugh out loud when the owner in seeking my approval said,

"I dont think it will actually do 200 mph."

I wouldn't have laughed it he had not been doubtful about what he was saying.

Adam M 02 February 2000 03:13 PM

On another note,

Nightmare, if you were in Southend, does this mean you live locally?

I was hoping to get to see your other car.

maybe. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

DavidRB 02 February 2000 03:14 PM

Not just an English phenomenon....

Adam M 02 February 2000 03:15 PM

scrap that last comment, I can now see that it was an anecdote from a friend.

Never mind. If you are around for a drive........

frisby 02 February 2000 03:26 PM

Just seen a tastefully modded TVR chimaera or Griffith on the back of a trailer, mods included totally flamed front end and doors and graffixs included the following text:-

"<B>death trap - this car was sold to me 3 weeks ago by XXXX dealer for £36,000</B>"

one unhappy ex TVR owner

Adam M,

>>...silver imppreza with a whopping wing that impaires vision...

Aaah, but what you forget is that the Impreza wing (MY99 type) actually has a practical use. I find it's just the right height to block out blinding headlights behind me.
You see, that's its real use http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

Isn't Ford's whaletail on a lowered cossie sierra/escort just about the right height for the officer to lean on as he writes out your next ticket?

I especially liked the Cortina I saw about 5 years ago with home-made skirts which were, I swear, made of square-section grey gutter pipe. The front spoiler was obviously a bit too deep as it sagged rather sadly at the nearside, the victim of kerbs/speedbumps. It does without saying that both of the driving/fog lamps had broken lenses and mould growing on the reflectors.

The rest of the car, mercifully, was standard, other than a 'V8S' badge stolen from a Rover SD1.

Pure class!

Moz 03 February 2000 12:24 AM

Seems to me there are a fair few snobs about, I had a seat 16v ibiza in kiwi yellow for eight weeks and people thought that was hilarious, but there is another ibiza in my area that i know about,in the same hilarious colour with flared arches and huge 17" alloys, although, its also got an F2 works mycstek engine which develops 250 bhp, I bet people laugh at that as well, for a while!

Oakley 03 February 2000 10:50 AM

On the subject of wings, there's nothing funnier than a nasty looking Nova with a thin green go-faster-stripe that lives round my way. It has a wing similar to something off an Esprit Sport 350 glued on its roof; which I've seen fall off! Plus it's about a foot wider than the car.

He also has the typical exhaust big enough for my dog to sleep in. Nice.

There seems to be a thing around my way (Reading/Wokingham) to paint the door pillars flurescent yelloy/green - on a red car! There is a Rover 800 hatch at the local Sainsburys like that and I've seen at least one Sierra like it as well. There's no accounting for taste...!

Penni Whitehead 03 February 2000 01:37 PM

How about
a black Alpha Romeo with a high black Evo spoiler ... (go on someone tell me they do them like that - please don't - even worse it was in our HO car park...)

and how about...
a red scooby 5 door, with a timber on the roof... thankfully (well at least I didn't see it) there was no little flag or bucket hanging down...
