Can anyone recommend a set of external PC speakers and Sub?

Middle price (ish).

Thanks

Si

I've got the Yamaha YST - MS201's.

30 quid from PC World but they were on special offer and that was about 6 months ago. Very pleased with them. Good quality sound.

Not particularly cheap, but some of the best performers are the creative/cambridge soundworks speaker sets.

I've had three incarnations of them and they are great, there are currently three different specs depending on your setup. I deviated from creative soundcards/speakers once and although it was cheap, the quality just wasnt there in comparison.

I pressume this is for a home install,
perhaps you could hook it up to your Hi-Fi much cheaper [1]
only need a set of the right leads.

[1]= only cheaper if you have a Hi-Fi ;)

I'm with Mr Holt on this one. Got a set of Cambdridge Soundworks 4.1 speakers. Only prob is lack of headphone socket, but apart from that they are pretty damn good. I got em dirt cheap, but think they are not too expensive.

Scour the auction sites for used bargains, as new they are quite steep.

As the current line up goes from £100 to £350 !!!!!

ouch.

If you are interested, I have a brand new set of Altec Lancing ones you can *have* if you pay the courier costs.

Uncle Buck - thanks - are they Ok soundwise?

They're brand new. We get a set with every new PC the company buys and they give 'em away to anyone who wants them.:) I use a similar set at home and they have a very broad frequency range. The sub-woofer can easily get the ornaments and windows shaking ;)

Try the Logitech Z-560s..

It uses a switched mode amp to deliver up to 400w. They can go very loud with awesome bass from the sub with very little distortion (maximum SPL is 114Db!!).

See http://www.3dsoundsurge.com/reviews/Z560/index.html for a review.

You do need analogue 4.1 output, or an external DD5.1 decoder get 4.1 (no DD decoder).

The price is suprisingly reasonable too.. around £160.

Cheers,

Alex

Ive got a set of Altec Lancing speeker on one of my puters and they realy do sound nice and as your getting them for free its got to be good :)
One of my other puters has got a Creative/Cambridge Soundworks 5.1 system connected to it and to be honest its a bit over kill for what i use it for but they do sound nice.
