Afternoon folks,

I'm working on a spec for one of our customers which will involve the need to send SMS messages to customer's mobiles for job allocations, delivery notifications and such like.

Based on current forecasts, we'll be dealing with around 6 million orders per year, of which maybe 10% may require an SMS message to be sent. Worst case scenario would equate to an average of 2,300 messages per working day, with 80% of that volume between 10am and 2pm.

From my perspective, we have basically two ways of handling this; either farm the messages out to an SMS service provider (with the caveat that provision of the SMS service is business critical) OR run a server ourselves with some kind of SMS transmitter plugged into the back going direct to a network provider.

Has anyone gone down this route before and got any recommendations of suppliers for either solution, or is able to point me in the direction of a particular approach ?

I use http://www.mobilemessagecentre.com for our sms applications at work. They provide a good service to us. Very easy to integrate their sms product into our own applications.

Cheers
Rab
