When I had a Saab it had a lockable glove box -- and it was a proper 'in the dash' one not a 'whole bottom half of the dashboard' one (which you could easily dismantle/break). In fact, I think there was a separate key so you could give the ignition/door keys to your garage/valet/etc. and they still couldn't get into the glovebox.

Talking about security features I had a Toyota Corolla that came with two master keys. In the handbook it stated that one key would open every lock but the other would open every lock except the boot. This was stated as a security feature as you could lock your valubles in the boot when taking your car to a garage and the mechanics couldnt use the key to open it. [/quote] Nice idea, except for the fact that the garage is the first place you'd take the car if you lost the key and needed someone to get into the glove box http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif Either you trust the garage not to raid the glove box / boot / ash tray or you don't. Personally I always remove all valuables from the car, but I don't worry about things like the foot pump and road atlas. Bren, I had a rover 800 that had the same set up. However, with the master key, you could lock it in such a way that the lever next to the seat didn't work. Surely the Toyota would hav had this feature too?

Yep I have seen car safes, in accessory shops, try a big locksmith and sometimes in those "innovations" catalogues that come through the door. The TOYOTA key thing comes rom the USA, its called the VALET KEY. You give the parking valet you key so they can park your mota without rifling the glove box and boot. (No offence to valet parkers, it just says it in the instruction manual) I had this on my MR2 mk1 Also Series 1 and 2 landrovers had a bloody big box under the passenger seat that you could padlock! (How sad am I) |
