Had a Tek 2.5/3 done today by John Banks.

I’ve been running a Dawes at 16.5 PSI for the past 4 months on a MY99 – the only mod being a decat PPP centre section last week.

I really enjoyed the Dawes and was a little bit dubious as to how much better the Tek would be – given that I was running one of the ‘good’ ECU’s already with the Dawes at a decent boost level.

When John uploaded the Tek map it ran to a boost of around 15.3 PSI, but after a stop and a quick tweak on his laptop the boost was holding around 16.4 PSI (almost the same as the Dawes that we had just taken off). Given that today has been roasting up here, I can expect around 17.5 PSI on cooler days.

My first impression of driving the Tek’d car was one of this ‘smoothness’ that everyone keeps using to describe the Tek and it really is very very noticeable. You do lose that mad kick that the Dawes gives but after experiencing the Tek, the Dawes seems so clumsy.

The part throttle control is also a huge improvement. You can hold the boost steady at 7/8 PSI if you want and everything is so controlled.

Another thing I noticed is that previously my car ran out of puff when you got up the rev range, but with the Tek the car just keeps pulling and pulling and it so smooth and controlled in that delivery.

When I came back home I took my wife out for a drive and as a passenger she couldn’t believe the difference. It’s weird as I thought the Dawes was pretty smooth until I tried this.

So, to summarise I think the benefits are:

* ECU controls the boost and is a safer solution then the Dawes.
* The performance is an increase over the Dawes and incomparable to a non-Dawes car.
* The Tek (3) can be modified/tweaked to take advantage of new mods.
* The car pulls all the way to the red line. The linear power delivery is superb.
* Even off boost the car sounds and feels better.
* The car feels so smooth and effortless compared to the Dawes.

Given the price difference, £35 to £600 – I thought I’d find it hard to justify the difference but the moment you pull away with the new map in place the decision isn’t a difficult one! I did love the Dawes but this seems the next 'step' up the ladder and a pretty decent one as well.

Afterwards John took me out in his machine – custom map city with a new turbo and a whole pile of other mods. I have never been in a faster car. Nothing until the turbo cuts in around 4000 revs but then hell opens up.

Very happy with today as you can probably tell :D

Still very happy with it.

Filled up this morning on Optimax and managed to get 330 miles from my last tank! Took 52 ltrs to fill it back up to the top.

With the cooler weather up here I'm getting a slight increase in boost as expected. Peaking around 17 PSI now - with perhaps 17.5 PSI come the winter months.

330!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ! How!!!!!!!!!! I drive like a saint 90% of the time, like a nutter for 10% and still can't beat 250-60 miles from a tank!!

I've got 360 before - not by choice! Long, very dull journey up & down a conjested motorway :rolleyes: cheap though :D

Saxo boy, you're still only putting £30 worth in at a time, the Scoobs can take a bit more you know ;)

Kenny - 330 was a lot of motorway travel - the good old M80 :(

But it did have a fair bit of on-boost excitment - I promise!!

Usually get around 280 - 300 from a tank on average. I have noticed a better fuel consumption since the tek though.

WTF!! I fill it till I can see the fuel in the neck and refill within 10-20miles of the light coming on but still struggle to beat 260! A lot of my driving is on the bypass at a continues 60-70mph with no boost (except from the two roundabout ;) ) I must just knacker my consumption on the rare occasions that I decide to have fun!

I'm probably just a very very dull driver :)

Must say though that I can't imagine how other cars must be driven on a daily basis to get the 18-20 mpg that I read about at times on this board.

Saxo boy, what gear do you have it in. ie are you always sat there in 4th ready for the opportunity to overtake, or do you sit in 5th and then drop down to overtake.

I used to do this, thinking i'll overtake in a minute, found myself doing about 10 to 15 miles without doing so.

You get more of a kick if you change down as well.

I get on average about 270 on about 45 litres of optimax.:D And i do have some fun, but go in as high a gear as possible when its not worth the hassle.:)

I'm very good at driving sensibly most of the time. I.e. not using boost, maintaining a resonable 60-70mph and yes...in 5th gear :rolleyes: In fairness though, when I do decide to floor it, I literally floor it!!! Maybe the novelty still hasn't worn off yet and I'm driving harder than I think?!

I can't wait for the TEK to be available for the MY01.

I've tek 2 and i never do more 200 Miles with 52 liter!
but thats right we are driving faster than you down here in south of france motorway cruising speed is for me 125 MPH and on small road often the same when it's not to curvy
