found i just need to get a bit of heat into them then they work fine, much better than the standard items

I have the Godspeed big brake(335mm)convertion on my MY00 UK spec turbo and I find that I need to put a lot of pressure on the brake pedal to get any decent braking. I find it gets a little better when they have heat in them but I still remember my last turbo with standard brakes had a lot more bite.

Could anyone recommend some new pads that will bite better when cold with my setup?

Will braided brake lines help with this?

What pads have you got at the moment?

I have the 335mm conversion with mintex 1144 (think this number is right)initially without braided lines, and found that the initial bite/feel of the pedal is not as good, but after a couple of uses of the brakes and a little heat is added the brakes really do work well and give alot of confidence.

Later i added a set of braided brake lines and with these the pedal is very very firm and gives excellent feel, the speed really does come off very very quickly with very little effort.

Overall a very good set-up.

Sorry everyone, couldn't get on a computer until today.

The pads are mintex 1144's. I took them out today and gave them a rubbing with emory paper to get the glazing off and did the same to the brake disc as well as cleaning it with solvent cleaner. Seems a little better now.

I am very happy with the brakes when they are warm but pottering arond town I don't really get chance to get enough heat through them.

I have an annoying squeak that keeps coming back too. It gets faster as I accelerate so it could be either a warped brake disc, which I dont think it is, or it could be something on the outer rim of the disc catching on the lip of the worn pad. I will emory down the 1mm lip that is on the pads and try it again tomorrow.

Godspeed brakes are known not to fit 100% on Evos, maybe it's the same problem with scoobies?

i have a similiar problem round town the bite's not there so i'm changing the pads first to ordinary pads then if that doesn't work i'm gonna have to change the calipers, kad do some nice ones for not to extorsionate prices. i also get after a run and some heat in to them when you pull away at a junction a rubbing noise that vibrates through the car so im sure i've got a funny caliper as the disc it's on gets a lot hotter than the other side but only after a run not all the time.


forgot to say my set up is the 325mm fixed four pot conversion

If the Mintex pads are too hard for you then if you do a lot of town driving you should fit a softer compound , the squeeking does happen sometimes with the Mintex pads with town use , if you give them some stick out on the open road you will find the noise will stop.

Scoobyboy , With the 325mm kit you have fitted to you Peugeot 306 it should stop very well with being a small car , As I said quite some time back as you are not far from me why don't you come down and I can have a look for the problem you say you have , all parts are covered by a 12 month guarantee , if there is anything wrong I will put it right , or it may be the kit is not fitted correctly so I can put it right if its that , You can also try different pads to see if they are more suitable to you , Let me know .

Claudius , We did in the early days of making the Evo discs have some make of pads that would rub on the bells , The problems we had , have now stopped as we have changed our designs on that disc , I have told you this before but you keep mentioning it like it still exists , it doesn't , OK !

ian yes it does stop well when giving it some and the squeak doesn't bother me sounds like a real rally car! i've got some ordinary pads on order i know i might get through them a bit quick with my discs but i dont mind. also the problem with the caliper has gone for some reason it's working ok at the minute so im not going to worry about it for the time being.
the only thing i worry about is that the pads that fit my calipers have a smaller surface area than the o.e pads so am i right in thinking that smaller pads with a bigger disc is the same as a larger pad with a smaller disc could that be why i think im not getting the braking force i thought i would be?
