Does someone know if it's possible to transform a standard european gearbox (1995) into a sequential gearbox ?
Is there any kit for that or all the gearbox must be replaced by a complete one ?

I started to speak with racebreed/gryphonic tech. but I had some difficulties.

Is there another supplier who is able to help me ?

Whilst at the Autosport show I asked a guy on the Quaife stand about sequential boxes in Imprezas and his rather curt (sp?) reply was that they didn't do one and it'd cost "lots of thousands" to build as a one off.

Just think of the problems Richard Burnes had with his last year and they cost £30-40k each.

Not Subaru related but the only sequential conversion I have ever seen in a road car is the one Middlehurst motorsport do for the skyline and that equals mega bucks !

I think Hewland do one, but it's about GBP13000. I found it on a rally and racing supplies website (the link for which I've now lost).

I beleiev that XTRac also done one that all the Rallycross boys use. Only rated to 1200 BHP so you might have to turn the boost down!! Worth a look in Autosport

Thats crazy money, Quaife do one for the sierra cosworth for around 4K, I`m sure they could do one for the scoobe

- what's exactly a dog box ? On makinen's mitsu for example it is a sequential gearbox or a dog box ?

- We are looking for a gearbox like that, with a lever that you pull/push and with no clutch pedal.

If you want a push pull lever in one plane only, ie forward and back, you want a sequential 'box (like bikes have).

If I recall correctly, the phrase "dog" box refers to a non syncromesh gear set designed so you don't have to use the clutch.

Sequential shift mechanisms can have "dog" gearsets.

Semi automatic boxes are simply where gears are changed by hydraulic actuation on, for example, pressing a button or pulling a lever as in F1

Think this is right, but prepared to be proven wrong!

I thought that the phrase "dog box" came from the way the gears are laid out in that rather than having 1st in the top left with 2nd below it, 3rd top middle, 4th below and 5th top right, a "dog box" has 1st top left and 2nd middle bottom, 3rd middle top (or maybe the other way round). Either way, 1st is on it's own in a "dog leg" off to the left so that you don't accidentally go into it whilst you're trying to concentrate on the track.

Or I might be way, way waaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyy off the mark !

a dogbox came about because the dogleg pattern for 1st, as this is where 2nd gear should be, then 2nd is where 3rd is and so on. The box where ypull back to change up and push to change down is a sequential box similar to a motorbike.

A dog leg shift is a gearbox with 1st in bottom left as yunus above. But a dog gearbox is as Diablo says, a bevelled set of gears requiring no clutch to change the gears.
