Used to go to the TGI's near Coventry 5 years or so ago. Good service and good food, large portions of grub

Went to the TGI's in Northampton twice


First time,
Got the drinks order wrong twice, did not believe it was their fault, implied it was ours also got the food order wrong, Other half veggie, they supplied a meat dish version of the starter, what looked like refried beans turned out to be chilli - not impressed. Begruguingly apologised to us. Food was average, not as good as i remembered
A group of around 5-7 staff where sitting a few tables away waiting to go on shift, noisy, swearing and generally unpleasent.

Second time - seated at a table and left without a menu for 15 mins, not particularly busy, asked for the menu a couple of times, got up and left

What $hite service i will never go back for sure.

I dont think Old Orleans or TGIs are particularly any good. Went to TGIs in West Swindon and Old Orleans in Reading recently and with both meals, i am sure the meat was made of rubber, i got the wrong starter at OO and a waitress with a face that looked like i had asked her to eat her own poo.

They were good 10 years ago when it was quite a new style or restaurant but now, its over-priced, over-tired rubbish. Give me a nice Tapas or Italian anyday !

Don't get me started on the veggie/meat issue. Not TGIF, but we've had some cracking examples of being served meat when we've clearly stated my wife's vegetarianism.

1. Went to a hotel in Kent for the second time. Having chatted to the restaurant manager and staff - who remembered us from our first visit - we'd specified various vegetarian requirements. They came out and served my wife a complimentary appetiser of fois gras. :eek:

2. Pizza hut - ordered a cheese and tomato pizza for my wife, which eventually arrived with pepperoni and pineapple on. A double-whammy, given that she's allergic to pineapple. :eek:

3. Went back to the hotel we spent the first night of our honeymoon at. My wife had specifically arranged with the guy who ran the hotel to make it a kind of anniversary special - so she'd got them to do the same menu as the one from our wedding night. Obviously, she specifically required veggie options. Her starter arrived with ham on top. :eek:

Etc., etc., etc.

After living near Sixfields for almost three years, I am amazed that TGI's in Northampton has any customers left. I went once and I will never be going back and all of my friends/heighbours hate the place!

.......agreed. The one in MK is no better - very expensive as well. They need to take a look at how their American counterparts run things.

Just to next door to Frankie and Bennies.

The experience is not a pantomime and they dont sing happy birthday.

plus they play the Grease soundtrack in there:D

TGI's isn't as good as it used to be - we had those experiences of the one in Manchester, however, the Bluewater one continues to be as good as ever :D

IMHO they have always been priced too high and crap quality food.

TGI's in Malta was nice when I went there :D

Not sure about Old Orleans, maybe I should do another test :D

My wife being vegetarian is a good thing. For example, if we have a BBQ, we have to light two of them - one that's been 'contaminated' with meat, and another which hasn't. Which, of course, means there's more room to cook more meat. :D

Mark - there is a down side, we only have the one 'barbie' so i have to cook the veggie stuff first before cooking the proper food!

Veggie BBQ? *pah* let her stay indoors and steam her cabbage I say!

At my old house I built a brick BBQ - a double one. Meat on one side, and non-meat on the other. You could cook for about 500 people on it. :D

When u get to Scotland build another. Then post up an invite and we'll test the 'feed 500' theory. ;)

The most amusing thing is that I now don't actually have any connection with Imprezas, apart from the people I met through owning one. Guess at some stage I ought to take down the website, really. :D

TGIS was never uphill to come down from.

Its a bit of a social hang out near me but the food is really dire.

americans laugh at it, because in the states it is cheap and crappy, yet in england because its american we think its special.

to them its like mc donalds!

I could bear tgis until they removed blackened tuna from the menu, now I have mo cause to go there.

I don't know how anyone could possible consider TGI's a "restaurant" in the first place.

It is a horrible chain of establishments serving up production line food with no culinary merit whatsoever; in an environment and ambience which is dominated by loud amplified piped music, nasty decor and fittings, staffed by dumb morons trained in being mock-happy and patronising. It must be torture to eat there - and you have to pay for it! No wonder the French and Italians despair about British eating habits.

For the price of one of their "meals" one can dine out very well indeed in civilised comfort at a proper restaurant.

TGI's is manky, went to the one on the Purley Way a few years ago, would never eat there again, rip off for what it is, wasn't clean the food was vile, I wouldn't class TGI as a resteraunt either, rate them as much as I rate Harvesters.....yuk a big no no imho.

Harvesters!!! What sh1te too. I had one meal in one about 6 years ago, very expensive, pathetic wine list and all the atmosphere of a old peolpes home.

Remember their TV ads:

"Have you ever been to a Harvester before?"

excruciating.

TGIF ... not food, just entertainment. If the ambience they offer is what you want, then great. But it's not food.

I've used the one in Enfield for a good few years now and I've never had any problems.

If you want a beer and a good burger or fahitas your onto a good thing and their chips are good - I've never had to knock the service either.

If you don't like it, don't go there...
