Does anyone know where I can get hold of one of those atmospheric dump valves that make the flutter noise instead of the usual noise when the air is released. Don't even know and can't seem to find which manufacturers do them. Cheers

I think the Forge V.T.A one has differentcoloured springs to have harder,softer release and also gives a chatter on one of them.Most shops have them.Try J.W performance or Jap innovations im sure either stock them.Good hunting

ive got a forge VTA fitted to my MY98.

I get a flutter at low boost

I get a Pssssssssssstttt followed by a flutter at mid boost

and i get a Pssssssssttttttt at high boost


i think ive got the blue spring fitted, but you can get different coloured springs which give different effects

BTW it sounds cool as phuck

get a decent filter then you will get loud fluttering noise from the (i think its the actuator ??)

Well I've got a HKS Super Flow induction kit, a full de-cat with just the standard RDV - Would I notice a difference if I fitted this Forge VTA valve.

Obviously I fancy the WRC chatter noise so would appreciate if someone can tell what spring colour would achieve this.

on my 01 wrx i have a blizt mesh filter and did have a forged vta, fluttered like mad,now got a hks ssq valve and dont do it no more

i actually think it does but i cant hear it cos the hks is too damn loud :D

Ive a bLITZ SUS induction kit on mine and sucks like hell,louder the more the revs rise,but left the standard rc dump valve on after talking to a guy who experienced bad running and mpg when he fitted aftermarket dump valve.Get the best of both worlds-Great sound from the Blitz and you can hear the standard dump valve as if it were an aftermarket one.

MY98 with Forge VTA.
Fitted it with the standard red spring (hard)had plenty of chatter but no TssssssssK! fitted blue (medium) spring beautiful TssssssssK! and a little chatter. It's up to you!

The forge is very drivable and dumps as loud or as quiet as you want depending on throttle lift off. Got mine @TSL motorsport Notts, give em a buzz they're very keen to help.

I suspect the flutter you are hearing is actually compressor stall, which is exactly what dump valves are intended to prevent... the harder the spring you fit to the valve, the more compressor stall you will induce. This isn't necessarily the worst thing ever, as long as the spring is soft enough to allow the valve to dump pressure above a certain level of boost it will still help to protect the turbo, but not as much as if it were to vent sooner. The harder springs will aid throttle response in a similar, but lesser, way to removing the dump valve completely and blanking off the air bypass ports. :)

I've got a Baileys Evo dv and that makes a massive Ptshhhhhh sound. I'd prefer the flutter sound but the only way you'd get it is to cause the impellar blades of the turbo to stall/almost stall (if I remember the last thread about this correctly).

The dump valves are there to stop this from happening to lengthen the life of the turbo. Stop the dv doing it's job and be prepared for the consequences. Although saying that, I've not seen one post on here from someone thats killed their turbo by doing it.

The Forge atmos dv with the red spring fitted needs more pressure for it to vent, hence why you hear the flutter must of us desire cause it closes quicker and begins to stall the blades :)

So is the red spring the one that comes with the DV as standard do you have to fit that separately?

I think you get the blue spring but contact Forge and they'll send you a red spring free.

It's real easy to charge the spring

undo the allen screws around the circumference of the valve. slowly pull apart the two halves and you will see the red spring. replace with blue spring, rebuild and hey presto Tssssssssk! and sometimes a Boom!
