anyone any advice please on bump strips. i want to get some but don't know whether to stay black or go colour coded. i remember a post a while ago on this topic but wasn't sure it covered the topic of paint adhesion.
do colour coded ones hold the paint on when they get bumped or does it chip off?

A friend of mine working in a body shop and he is colourcoding mine - seems to think they will be OK http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

Mine in Aylesbury won't cos they say the rubber (4 door type) is to soft & the paint will crack.

So I'm not sure where to go next.

I sprayed the strips myself and if prepared properly the paint stays on! Refrain from flexing the strips between painting and fitting, difficult I know as they are very floppy! Cost? Wet`n`dry to key the surface, spray surface cleaner, plastic primer(clear), white primer, basecoat(the colour), clear lacquer. All told about £20 and you`ll have plenty left to colour code the soppy orange bits under the front indicators! and possibly the door mirrors?

thanks for the replies.appreciate the time taken to respond.
i wonder if anyone on the scoobynet site has coloured ones fitted and what they have found so far.
i must say the aylesbury dealer doesn't inspire confidence in paint adhesion yet other companies seem to give their cars colour coded ones..... although there are a lot of black ones out there too.

Matt,

There have also been photos in the Members gallery with DBM cars with unpainted strips, and they look good. Also saves the cost of having them resprayed! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

The only reason I didn't get mine sprayed, is that with a lighter coloured car like silver and white, it looks like a big moving fridge! The black breaks up the expanse of silver!

It also compliments the smoked wind deflectors, P1 anthracite wheels and the tinted windows!

Cheers
Andy

I've been talking to Cheam Motors about this very subject and they advise that if you spray the side protection strips, if someone bumps their door into them, the paint will come off.....

I too spoke to the aylesbury dealer - got the same reply...

Im thinking of putting ones from a Ford Mondeo (hard compound) also like the VW Golf ones - but £37+vat per strip is a bit much.

Will post some pics when I get my act together....

I was thinking about the possibility of getting them sprayed after all and then covering them with either Armourfend of some other (but cheaper) clear protection film of some sort.

That would hopefully stop the paint coming off whilst protecting the car. I don't really want to put them on black as I think it spoils the look (in DBM at least). Having said that, Andy Tang's car looks quite good in silver with the black strips but I don't think it suits DBM.....

Anybody's thoughts????

Ta,

I'd like to get the Terzo strips colour coded cos a) it looks great on the P1 b) the bottom of the bumper & doors (what ever that trim is called) is not colour coded so I don't want 2 black lines running down the car.

Just my thoughts.

Ian

P.S. If sombody does find another makers strips fit the 4 door pls let me know. TY
