There are all these P1's sitting there unsold, but why or how can the dealers expect to ask full price for them?

I know they are good, but wouldn't it be more realistic for Subaru to sell them off at say £24K?

Cue lots of pissed off owners who paid list price...

medders 26 June 2001 10:02 AM

I think 24k's a bit unrealistic, but if you want one, go and do a deal. A few of us discussed this a couple of weeks back.
You will be in a more advantageous position as there are some sitting around. They do seem to be moving at the moment tho. My garage had 2. I've got one and the others sold as well......

Jamie Whitfield 26 June 2001 10:04 AM

No no no!!! Dont be p1ssed off by that, I was just saying that if Subaru want to shift them, and they do, because they need to sell a lot more cars than they have been in recent months, why don't they discount them. Afterall some of them have been in storage for well over a year now.

ChrisB 26 June 2001 10:06 AM

Having said that, Caveat Emptor is as true as ever I suppose!

Jamie Whitfield 26 June 2001 10:11 AM

Huh???

Adam M 26 June 2001 10:22 AM

so is carve carnum!

polarbearit 26 June 2001 10:26 AM

The problem was two fold, one subaru originally said the car would be below £30k list and two they built twice as many as they originally intended. In the past few months there have been some bargins on P1s so the dealers can shift them. Lets hope Subaru learn from this with the UK STI when they launch it.

Not sure if I fancy buying a car that has been sitting around unused for a year.

Would this have a bad effect on the engine, sitting there unused for that length of time??

Caveat Emptor - Let the Buyer Beware!

Jamie - Subarus sales are up on same period last year. So do they really need to sell more cars ( apologies if you were being specific to p1 ).

I have heard that the last P1s have gone out to the dealers so that would probably rule out any massive discounts.

It was rumoured that the p1 was gonna be sold at a discount back in september last year by a few people in the know http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

What language is that then Adam?

Must be derived from Latin, as the Latin phrase is "Cave Canem".

(There's always one pedantic sod, isn't there...)

Adam M 26 June 2001 03:55 PM

Thanks nick,

I was spelling it phonetcially so that when people read it back to themselves, their pronunciation would be perfect http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif.

Well, there was a theory that the "V" in latin should be pronounced like a "W"... http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

Cawe carnum...

I think that I have seen posts for the past 12 months saying that they've all been sold to dealers. They must be close to it now!

It made me laugh when I was getting my car serviced the other day. On the desk, amongst the other delightful reads thoughtfully provided for their waiting punters such as Home and Garden June 1997, was the International Motors internal newspaper for mid-2000. In there, it states that all 1000 cars had been sold before their release...

Chiark

Just passing on the info as I heard it.

Maybe wrong maybe right Ceteris paribis ( sp ) and that's the other Latin phrase I know.

I was advised they were "all out in the dealer network" in May. IF that's correct IM will be awaiting payment next month...they don't need to discount em.

But the dealers might http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

Wotcha Neil. Sorry, I didn't mean to sound as if I was doubting you. This "sales technique" has been used quite a few times - back in December my local dealer had delivery of "the last two"... http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Well one time the rumour has got to be right http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif.

You just never know.
