i am thinking of buying a 94my wrx import,are all wrx this year imports,and wot sort of problems should i expect and is it a wise buy???

Ive got a MY 94 WRX got it last Jan 2000 had no problems with it at all past MOT ETC ETC just make sure you get a warenty from the dealer mine had 42k on the clock and i paid £12k for it i would not get rid of it for the world (may be a P1) Dont forget Subaru UK wont Touch them so you must have a good garage to service it

As with Chizz, I got my WRX last year. It is one of the first STi's. Brilliant car loads of power. Be careful of damage repairs - plenty of them. For the best price look in Northern Ireland - for 94 motor the average price is under £8000. Also enquire about insurance first!

bought a 94 WRX import about 5 months ago; no complaints - checked out the model no. details against the listing on SIDC to make sure I was getting what the dealer told me.

now successfully modded with larger air filter, straight thru exhaust, STi clutch, short-shift gear lever; next will be link ecu, then larger turbo.

at the price paid for the car I feel there's money left over to do mods

Same here. Got mine in Feb. Had a couple of minor probs but lots of help on this BBS and Graham Goode Racing. By biggest tip......BUY IT. Love mine to death.

I've had the blackbeast (MY94 WRX Wagon) for over a year and it's great, no real problems, apart from working out what all the additional switches the jap owner had actually did, plus it really needed a good full service, apart from that it's great.

The first thing I'd do is find out if it's a plain old WRX or an STi, then find out if it's standard or modified.

Then go an talk to some insurance companies and get some quotes, no use buying the car if you cannot insure it, basically UK spec cars are circa group 17, whereas WRX or STi you are looking at anywhere between 17 and 20, or 20+.

Mine is probably 20 or 20+ mainly as it's jap import, plus modified, and I have declared all the mods I know about, hence the reason for checking out the mods to the car beforehand.

Only other advice, is, as others have said, check you have a garage that can service it as UK subaru dealers will not touch jap imports. I'm lucky as I have a guy who specialises in Plusar GTiR's and scoobies, so he services my car, plus gives loads of free advice to me. right so your looking at a 94 wrx? ive got a uk turbo with the prodrive wr pack fitted, now, your car in standard form has 240bhp, it only runs on super unleaded fuel (97 ron) and it needs servicing every 6 months or 7.5k, which ever comes first. You need to find a speciallist garage that will do the servicing for you, you need to see how much its going to cost you to run the car, no point in having the car if you cant afford to maintain it http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif it wont be cheap, my last service cost me 300 quid but i also had a body service with that too (and an air filter) and thats a uk car!! Put some money aside, the first thing your going to have to do is upgrade a few things (ie have 14k, spend 11k use the rest for mods and insurance!) brakes are one thing that the older impreza's need sorting, the 2pots are pretty cr@p to say the least so aftermarket 4 pots are worth the 800-1000quid, nice exaust at 5-600 quid inc downpipe, bigger alloys and decent tyres (have 17's and bridgestone so-2's on mine, 1300 with alloys).

Do the usual checks though, all the body panels, check it drives in a straight line, brakes in a straight line, get it rac/aa inspected as it covers your back!! Don't be put off by the horror stories my 94wrx is now on 112,000km, no major bills apart from a new AP clutch (£393 fitted) @ 107k. I have had the car for the last 28k and it has been great. Insurance expensive but possible with a great amount of effort. Tyres cost £80ea for Toyos T1s (which are good!) or mike@PD is doing 4 yokos @ £220. So not bad really! Petrol is Ok (mine runs fine on either 95 or 97 RON gas. Fuel economy is poor (30 mpg never possible, 22-24mpg average - 50% B Road thrashing, 50% motorway).

Now I am debating new car - UK WRX in europe or 99 ish STI for similar money. Would love the STI but I do too many miles really...
