Due to a very large pay rise, i am thinking of getting either: Scooby(i do like the type r), a Lancer evo 5, a R32 Skyline Gtr or at a very big push, a R33 Gtr.
My mate has just recently bought a R33 Gtr, and its the dogs Danglies, he previously had a Lancer evo 6 which was very nice, so i have experienced the skyline and for about 2 years ish, the evo 6.
What do i get,like i said, the R33 would be a bit tricky, money wise.
Any opinions would be welcome, esp if you have driven more than one of the above cars.

Evo is better

Skyline 32 is better than 33 because it's lighter

Evo is better for small roads, Skyline better for straights.

Go for the R32, and get ready for some silly fun.

Go for a R32. They can be had for silly money, £10k or less.
Very few people know what they are, lighter than an R33, more involving drive (so I have been told).

If you can live with the looks, not everybodies cup of tea, go for it.

Thanks people, i forgot to say that my dream car is a skyline, really a r34 or r33, and like i said, my mate has just bought a r33 and it is AMAZING, THE MOST AWESOME CAR I HAVE EVER BEEN IN.
The only thing against the r32 is the age, so im swaying towards an evo 5.

Having owned a Subaru and driven many more, done 20,000 miles in an R32 GTR, driven the EVO and been in countless others as an MLR member and now own a very quick trackday Sierra my advice would be the R32.

They are so well built and are really unstressed to 400hp although their torque figures are never high.

The Skyline is a real bruiser of a car, really heavy and just seems to flatten roads. I loved it and whilst I adore the Sierra really wish in many ways I still have the R32.

My advice though would be to drive a lot before you buy as you will be amazed at how many dogs there are out there. Phone Abbey Motorsport and ask if they know one for sale: that way you kind of know the history.

EVOs are boring in my opinion; too easy to drive fast. An R32 however will reward you well. HOWEVER, nothing rewards as well as a 400hp 3dr Sierra!! :)

I have to agree with you all there. Am biased towards skyline naturally.
I met Stu recently and a sweet looking motor. some nice trust bits on there and nice Nismos. can beat em eh stu as I have the GT1s on me 33.
As for driving, my nan could drive an EVO fast. you just can't shake em. no matter what. I have tried left foot braking, rake it into a corner and it is all sorted. where is the fun in that!!
And how many have actually done a rally??
Anyways R32 is lighter, but older and does not have the technology in the active rear diff like the R33 Vspec. If you can find an R32 GTR VSpec then I would gladly pay you. japs just keep em!!
Depends what you want but I tell you want nothing has scared me more than a 3dr sierra cossie running 420 BHP. What a giggle. It used to smoke the wheels at 100 in 3rd on the motorway. class. A true legend if you can get a good one. I just could not trust myself in one.
Plus there is this misconception that a skylien "drives itself". trust me they don't and they can seriously bite you back. Just get ready to catch it...

Personally much prefer the handling of the GTR to the Evo and Scooby, though they are very different cars. R32's are good cars too, though I much prefer the R33's looks build and finish :)

Yep, it is Peter E's car behind, piccy was taken before I owned the car. There are quite a few GTR's in Blackpool I think, I saw the le mans edition last time I was there, and the yellow one belongs to 'Dodgy' on the GTR forum - I thought it was one of 3 official yellow UK cars (though yellow is a standard GTR colour so other R34's are available in Japan).

What are you driving scooby nutter? - I'll probably be in Blackpool this weekend, give me a wave if you see me :)

Look out also for Bob in his 650bhp+R34 *** *95.He's the one who owns the car in my pic.Tuned by Hiteq with a 2.8 stroker conversion all new steel internals etc etc.

Yep, should be in the skyline (R*** YLE) or maybe a blue R reg 106 (girlfriends - she lives on the fylde). My GTR is running circa 400bhp, AP brakes, Nismo suspension and some other toys :)

Get the R32, in graphite, as the top photo, the best looking of the three by far:D

I'm biased, I've been dreaming about one since they first came out, and the subsequent cars just don't do it the same:D

Come to 10 of the best next weekend, and see all of the above in action, then you can decide !!

Scoobies and evos are very similar cars, and along with everyone else I also think the scooby is a more rewarding drive. I work at skyline specialists RB motorsport (we built the engine for Keith Cowies white skyline that was in the "For Sale" forum but I can't find it now!!) I have been in more than my fair share of fast Skylines, but they will not touch a scooby down a country road. However get one on a fast A road and they are absolutely amazing. I would love a skyline but there just aren't enough fast A roads in my neck of the woods to justify buying one. So in answewr to your question Shaolin, "it depends what you are going to do with it"

had a my00 with ppp, sti5, r33 with 550bhp, now an evo 6 with RC stage 3.

i'll take the evo everytime.its the best compromise. superbly built, quick on the straights and blinding in the twisties.
does everything so well, and tuners seem to be getting better figures by the week for these cars.

i absolutely recommend the evo;)

I would agree that a Scooby would be quicker on a tight country b road but not because it handles better. The only reason Skylines arn't that great on twisty b-roads is down to the suspension being to hard. I know this from experience (R34 450BHP and WRX)I have tried to muscle the old Skylark down b roads but it is tooo scary :eek: tramline like a cnut, which can be a TAD un-nerving when approaching a bend on the right line only to find yourself pitched two foot either side just before turning in :D

I was thinking of an EVO V or R33 for my next car, when I've finished paying for my scoob... One question though - how much money does it cost to get an R33 to about 400 bhp compared to an EVO V? This will probably influence my decision, as I like the idea of really big power in the future.
Oh yeah and as standard does the Skyline drink lots more fuel than the EVO?

costs less to mod an r33 to 400bhp than an evo...by a long way;)
r33's dont drink fuel either, my 550bhp r33 was more fuel economical than my modified evo. my evo guzzles fuel!

The RB26 lump was overengineered when Nissan designed it, allowing for greater boost to be run and upgrades perfomed using the stock internals - Plus it is a bigger engine in the 1st place.

A few basic mods will see you hit 400bhp relatively easily - however the power delivery in the skyline feels very different to that of a smaller engined higher geared Subaru or Evo - ie: it doesn't always feel quicker.

go to www.gtr.co.uk and see what the guys have done to theirs to get this kinda power !
