On my way back from Godspeed this afto, come across Severn Bridge ("Roadworks" posted on A40 >>>M50).
As I join the M5 I come up behind a bike cop. I think "Oh sh*t, this'll slow me now" .
But wait a minute.....why is his flashing beacon(not flashing at the time) orange? And why doesn't his helmet have the checkered pattern? And why does his "stop" sign say "slow" when you get close enuff to read it? And most of all, why is he doing 85>>90??
So I settle down and follow. The traffic in front now no longer sits in the outside lane for miles, but magically moves over, and NO-ONE passes us!!! Brilliant!!!
I finally waved "'bye" to him along the M42, when I could see he was motorway maintenance. Magic. thanx mate, whoever you were!!!

Reminds me of last august bank holiday weekend, heading down to cornwall. Left london mid afternoon on the M4, and by the time i got on the M5 it was SOLID. Anyway, after 1 junction i'm pootling along at 5mph in the fast lane, when i see this transit van enter the motorway, kitted out with blues and twoes. He quickly fights his way into the fast lane - directly in front of me. Painted on the back is "ROYAL NAVY BOMB SQUAD". Then the siren/lights start!

I stuck to him like glue until he pulled off around Exeter, 80/90 all the way, past all the traffic!! Tried really hard to not let anyone get between us ;)

Just before he pulled off, traffic cleared so he moved over to let me through. As i went past, i had a look in (siren and lights are still going btw). Inside are two youngish chaps who probably may have WORKED for the bomb squad....but were obviously off for the weekend! Good work fellahs!
