Hi all,
Question is for Pete Croney or anyone else whom can help :) When I put on my full ScoobySport turbo back exhuast (all cats removed) I have heard that the CEL does not come on right away. Can I wait for it to come on before installing the CEL magic box fix from ScoobySport ? If the CEL comes on once I put on the magic fix will it go out by itself or will I have to disconnect the battery to reset or worse have it done by a Subaru dealer (none in The Bahamas :( ?? Does anyone have a torque curve or RR for a STi-7 full ScoobySport turbo back exhaust with restrictor job done ? I would like a reading as to how much the torque increses and most importantly how much lower down. Cheers, Ray PS: A picture of where the restrictor is would be nice as I don't have a clue and need to change this when I install the exhaust. |

Whats a CEL.!!! interested to know the gains though. |
Hi Ray
The CEL will light up after two usage cycles where the ECU has detected cat removal or cat failure. For the ECU to detect this, the car must be held at a constant light throttle at between 50mph and 75mph (approx). In this usage, the fuelling is controlled by lambda, not a fixed map. If you use the car for constant blasting, it may never light up. You cannot reset this by disconnecting the battery. Some codes can be cleared by turning the ignition on and off 4 times, but I don't know if P0420 is one of the codes. If you can't get to a Select Monitor to reset the CEL, you can do it with an OBDII reader, available quite cheaply in the US, or with a Deltadash from Ecutek. The car drives just the same when this code has lit the CEL. The restrictor replaces the OE restrictor and is located near the turbo. Look at the turbo and see where it feeds the pipe that goes under the intercooler. Just at the end of the turbo's metal outlet pipe, there is a grey small rubber pipe that comes off and comes round to form a T shape. The restrictor is inside this pipe, between the turbo and the T piece connector. Push the old one out with a thin metal rod and insert the new one. Enjoy :) |
a CEL is the same as an MIL ;)
|
Ok Ok,
CEL= Check Engine Light MIL= Malfunction Indicator Lamp (the propper name for it) :) |
Thx for the info Pete,
So I guess to avoide having the CEL light come on and not being able to shut it off I should just install the OBDII at the same time I install the exhaust ? Cheers, Ray |
