I know there have been a few running costs threads recently, but I thought it would be interesting to compare the fuel consumption 'achieved' by different drivers. My car is standard with 1600 miles on the clock, and at the moment I am getting about 18.3 mpg (Optimax)for a mixture of about 30% urban and 70% country/motorway driving.

Any advance on 19?

Charlie.

Did 350 mile round trip last week albeit very steadily and was happy to work out my MPG at 27.

I get 230-260 miles from a tank (needs around 50 litres to fill). I think that this works out to be about 20-22 mpg. Optimax adds about 10-20 miles per tank difference compared with SUL.

I get around 200 miles from a tank of Optimax, which is around the 19MPG mark.

I get approx 20-22 mpg also. Mainly motorway.

PC,

250 to a tankful of Optimax. I am still running in, so not sure how representative this is.

Have to say I don't worry about it other than to make sure their is a Shell station close by as I start to run out. High fuel consumption comes with the territory, it would seem.

See the post I just put up "STi TypeUK 6mpg"

But usually around 16 - 18mpg depending on how bad birmingham traffic is..

never had more than 200 miles out of a tank, thats with me diving in granny mode ;) :D

Over the 12.5K miles since Feb I have averaged 26mpg using Optimax. About 75% motorway driving. Under 2K miles it was a bit thirsty. Don't judge until well run in, and by that I mean at least 5K miles.

Had a run down to Gatwick couple of weeks ago, about 240 miles on a return trip. I've got a typeR, shot g-box an all, I was well suprised to have averaged around 26mpg, cruising at about a ton, wih the odd blast in between, had 4 adults and boot full of luggage on way back.

Round where I live P'boro I get about 20-22 if I'm lucky.... (fantastic roads though so well worth it.)

ScottishMenace 22 July 2002 11:57 PM

Ok just to clarify - I get 200 miles to a tank of fuel. But my definition of a tank is orange warning light up to a full tank. Thats about 50 litres. I think its a 60 litre tank we have??? so presume that makes another 10 litres under the orange light.
How the hell you get more than 200 miles beats me.

22mpg mainly country roads progressively driven, over 3500 miles using Optimax. Car's starting to loosen up, and the economy is gradually improving as it does so, so agree with KenG on that one.

Got Sti 6 Type R Coupe V-ltd and have been averaging 12mpg on Optimax. NOT v-good.

ProperCharlie 24 July 2002 11:44 AM

I suppose it was a little bit of a shock at first, having to fill up 2-3 times a week instead of once or twice. If I end up getting about 20ish when it's loosened up I'll be quite happy. The main problem is my local shell station doesn't sell optimax. I suppose the figure that the place is such a sh*thole, nobody would be driving a car that needs it. Cheers, Shell.
