Dad has a house with 7 acres of woods. He also has an old tractor, and a lot of the appropriate power tools.

I'd often go down with a group of mates for a slash and burn weekend, cleaning up the woods and having a good time.

Now he says he is getting more and more worried that if one has an injury that puts him off work, perhaps for life, Dad would be liable, and he doesn't want to risk having to sell the house to pay that. E.g. the tractor has no roll-bar (it's 1960-odd), and no-one has been on an authorised chainsaw course. I am well aware of the damage even a simple billhook can do, with the scar to prove it.

Anyone know the legal situation, and if there is any sort of personal accident insurance available that would not be too prohibitive? Unlikely house insurance would cover it?

Wouldn't it just come under tough luck and stupidity? How could your dad be responsible if you and your mates are doing it off your own back, if ye asked you and was paying you then that would be a different matter.

Wurzel, I wish it did, but certain breeds of lawyers (I am not one of them) don't make much money like that these days.

I hope you've got you Hapflicht(spelling) insurance in Germany, its expected that we all have 3rd Party damage insurance in case you do something stupid to someone or someone elses property. Unlike at home if you get pished in you mates house and break his glass coffee table you just say sorry, here if you do that your expected to pay using that method. Its cheap at about 50Euro PA or something for a family but strangely expected.

Hi Cammy long time no hear, yes I have that along with insurance for about everything else you could imagine, I think in all I pay about 7 different insurances for various things. Every letter I get seems to be for money for something or other.

I am starting to really hate this country :D:D:D
