is it ok to earth an arc welder onto the exhaust heatshield without removing it from the car? (ive removed the altenator connections first of course) but im wondering if it has the possibility of frying some circiuts in the ecu etc??
itd be real handy to know because itd mean the difference of either 5 seconds of spot welding a cracked heatshield or an hour or so removing the shields (you should see the bolts):D

Ive always welded on cars.. (whilst they are running as well  )you could disconnect the battery or unplug the ecu.. you so long as your earth lead is on the exhaust / or whatever your welding... so that the current doesnt have to go through the loom... inteference could affect ecu or alarm though...

yip mine was rattling away like mad too, the bottom half of the shield round the drivers side header. took me longer to source the crack than it did to weld it. just dont have your welder turned up too high or youl burn holes in it.:D
