Having a lot of wear on the outside edge of both front tyres - at least 2mm more than the inside edge. Car drives fine with no tracking bias - Any ideas anyone???

If you are on factory geometries they always do that! Get the prodrive or Powerstation setup on the car. Or you could slow down in the corners. ;)

JF,
Could this also be caused by heavy acceleration when the fronts try to tuck under. Just a theory!! (Don't know if they would tuck enough to wear the outer edges though).

Fronts do tend to tuck in under acceleration on FWD cars, which is why many are set up to toe out static, but not so common on AWD cars where power is divided between the wheels, and there is more power and torque transfer to the rear wheels.

For example, a 220bhp Impreza with a 40/60 split will only be putting around 88bhp and relative torque through the front wheels.

Alas
What model car/suspension mods if any/tyres/wheels is it?

My S02's are in exactly the same state. MY00 with standard tyres/wheels and just a TSL backbox.

Am thinking of swopping the fronts with the backs (that have more tread on) - is this wise or should I stop being tight and just get a new set of boots?

Dave
Car is MY97 Wagon on Prodrive Speedlines 215/40/17's. Got quite a few Prodrive elements to the car like wheels, quickshift, interior etc but I don't know if anything has been done to the setup. I bought it with this all already in.

Ok, as John says best thing is to get someone that knows how to check alignment *properly* to do a camber/toe check on the front wheels.

Seems like all is ok with the wheels apart from tracking being slightly out. Speaking to someone who is very good they seem to think it is a combination of setup, tracking and power steering scrub.
Pain as I'll have to change the tyres sooner than I should need to.
