I’ve just had my secretary ring over 60 tyre dealers in the UK to find the last few 215/40/17 S02’s. Unfortunately to no avail :(

Can the S02 really be dead? What the hell are Bridgestone playing at?? The S03 is I hear not very good, putting it mildly, apart from it has less road noise?? Who cares about that, we drive Scooby’s, we can’t hear the flipping road noise over our exhausts and ICE :D

We want a great wet & dry weather grip tyre, just like the S02.


The Toyo I know first hand is not a match in the wet for the dearly departed S02. What about the dry, not that we have any dry weather over here??


So whats left, what tyre is the second best out there. The Goodyear F1?? Yoko A539 is no good, A520 & AVS not available??


So what do I do?????????????????????????????

Just reluctantly gone from S02's in 16" to F1 GSD3 in 17", will let you know as I've done about 1000 miles and still haven't really given them a hard time on the dry limit yet. Wet seems good so far....

i bought the last set of SO2's in the country (i think) last week. Bloody gold dust. I have some part worn SO2's too, which i am putting on a new set of wheels for use on track, so i dont kill these.

Whilst picking these up i saw a new tyre, SO2A !!! Need to find out what this is!!

I know where the last set is, and thats at Tyres Northampton, waiting to go on Marks Scooby.

I have SO3's. Fantastic. Wet or dry.

i meant the last set you could buy. ;) there was one other set but they are going on the atom. The cupboard is bare mark! :(

SO3's are crap compared to SO2's, i think thats the best description for them. :D

Never had SO2's so its not my place to comment on them,
but from my experience, the SO3's do very well, I
have HEARD (grape vine) that you will get double the mileage
out of SO3's. Depends on the budget I guess. Also, the SO3's
we get in South Africa may be a different kettle of fish to the
ones you get. We also run up to 35 degrees Celsius in summer and
for the most part have rough, abrasive road conditions.

are you running 16's or 17's as i wont need my other so2 PP on 215/40/17 soon as im getting some toyo's until they release a new decent bridgestone tyre.

Gotta disagree with most of the posts on this thread. ;)

Had SO2s on my MY99 until earlier this year when I changed to SO3s. Also moved from 16" to 17" rims at the same time.

VERY happy with them so far, and I'm not just saying that as a result of Bridgestone *cough* supplying me a set FOC :D:D:D

Very grippy in both dry & wet, even when compared to the SO2, and no problems with the tramlining so common on the OE fitted Bridgestones.

What I've heard so far (and I did alot of research! :eek::D) is that no-one with SO3's in 16" are happy...however, I've had SO2's on 17's and SO3's on 17's and I think the SO3's are prehaps marginaly (and it's very close) better than the 2's. Tryed in wet and dry and up 45% hills and down 20% gradents (in the lake district) can't fault them really... :) Seem's people with 17's think more of them than the people with 16's...

MurrayZA... you get more milage out of the S03 companred with S02 due to the compound being harder... hence the drop in grip.


I have been know to drive my car very hard...

For the last 7 months I have been on S02's and very happy with them... Unfortunatly I faced the same predicament as what you are talking about.... what is a suitable and comparable replacement???

I am know running the New Goodyear F1's and I must say they are IMHO marginally off of the S02... but that is pushing them realy hard.. (to which most wont see :D )

IMHO I have definatly made the right decision and would recommend them F1's as I did with the Bridgestone!

Aaaah. Explained. I have 215 - 45 - 17's SO3s. I do a lot
of mileage, so the slightly harder compound is a better
option and the slight loss of grip an unavaoidable side
effect. Hell, these cars are so grippy that a little loss
of traction is sometimes welcome... (we get maybe 35 wet days
out of 365). I have heard good things of the F1's (apart from some
bubbling stories) and Toyos seem to be excellent value too.

If you look for the best gripping street tyre on dry surface, get Pirelly PZero assimmetrico. Better than any other street tyre.

I had two sets of SO2PP in 16 and am now on F1 GS-D2 in 16".

For me, I think I prefer the F1s having a bit less grip in the gry as I can play with the car more on a certain roundabout :D

Chris, If you want to go around roundabouts sideways, you need scandinavian flick, not bad tyres. :)

I have got the Pzeros at the moment and I think they are pants the bridgestones are miles better the Pzeros are cr@p in the wet.

Jake I'm right there with ya. Pzero's are bl^^dy awful tyres. As far as I'm concerned there dangerous in the wet, and not much cop in the dry.

Anyone got a rough idea on what to pay for some S02's ??? Have been offered 2 of these or 2 Goodyears F1 (not sure if d2 or d3).
Not seen the tyres but it is through a mate so no reason to doubt him. I just didn't know that the S02's were hard/oimpossible to get.

Intresting thread as I've never used any other tyre on my scoob other than the standard fit on the my00. Got to decide by tonight though. Any advice welcome please ...

Hmmmm ... Thanks John. So if I can only get two S02's then I'm better off going for 4 Goodyears instead ? Seems a shame to take off two good tyres (on the back) but I understand the importance. Would the two S02's not mix ok with the current OE bridgstones or are they completely different. Soz for the silly Q's ...

Yeah dont get Pzeros

dont mix any makes or types. This isnt Impreza only advice, its any car.

Especially dont mix a rock hard OEM bridgestones with sticky SO2's. You will either understeer into a lamp post or oversteer into a stone wall depending on which end they fit. ;)

Tyres work diferently wet/dry too, so you could have the oposite effect in teh wet/dry. Just dont do it! Buy all 4, the best 4 you can get, tyres matter more than any other component on the car!

I used to have S02's and they are awesome and would recommend and use them over anything else if they were available... sadly not though...

After careful consideration and lots of conversations etc.. I went for the new F1's and I must say they are good! Only ever so slightly slip to begin with when throwing it... but once settled hold on very well....


The boys are right though... whatever you do dont buy separates buy all of the same tyre.

Do a search for 'Tyre prices for scoobynetters' It has some very keen prices which you can a) take advantage of or b) use to barter with your local supplier! ;)

I have ordered the S02's (2 of at the mo as money is a bit short) but I have asked for another two to be ordered for next month.As already mentioned I also like to be 100% sure when it comes to tyres as thats the only bit of the car in touch with the road. Just have to drive sloooooow till next month but thats better than being illegal !

I've just replaced SO2s with Toyos at the front and kept some SO2s on the back. Now that Ive worn the Toyos in, the front end bite is remarkable, and the car certainly feels a bit looser. I'd be surprised if anything can better the Toyos for value for money.

Where are these other 2 SO2's going to be ordered from? they dont make them anymore! I dont understand the decision you made, fitting those after all the advice saying not to! :confused: I hope you dont have an emergency stop on a corner anytime soon!

I have read various messages regarding this subject and have also opted for the two toyo's(16inch)on the front @ £152 for the pair fitted and balanced and kept the original S02's on the rear and have not noticed any difference except the big smile on my face knowing how much money i saved.Lets be fair who drives 110% all the time?
