Last night I pulled away quickly from a set of lights to get away from an annoying driver. I didnt floor it but was brisk and then I see a new Y reg corvette go past on the ourside. He looked across and shook his head which made me wish I had pushed it harder.
I have a RB5 WRSport. Do you reckon I would have had him if I had booted it???? [This message has been edited by jjk (edited 13 June 2001).] |
yes!....'Y' makes him early eighties and
corvette was a relativly low powered heavy dog at that point.. |
Or it could be a 2001 Y reg corvette. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif
You would have troubles outgunning one of those to 60, especially once rolling where the 4wd becomes a sapping on the power train rather than a traction advantage |
.....or, if the "Y" is at the front end of the plate; in a straight line it would leave you for dead.....
I rode round the Jerez GP circuit in a new one a couple of weeks ago.....385bhp, 385ft/lb torque, 171 mph top speed..... |
In a straight line you would probably have had problems.
BUT if you show the corvette a corner (even a little one) then they have to slow right down. Most American cars that I have driven (even an unmodified Dodge Viper) really can't go round corners! Steve. |

The Corvette Z06 does 0-60 in 4 seconds. 375 ft-lb. at 4400 rpm 385 horsepower at 6000 In a nice fibreglass car. <BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:<HR><B>BUT if you show the corvette a corner (even a little one) then they have to slow right down.[/quote] I'm not sure about this, I seem to remember the Corvette held a record for coping with the highest lateral G's (for a production car, blah blah) while cornering - but that was a while back. http://www.canadiandriver.com/news/i...rvettez06f.jpg [This message has been edited by DavidBrown (edited 13 June 2001).] |
Thought as much. Shame we didnt reach any corners and then we would see who is DADDY http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif
Cheers |
....if you saw the way the 'vette was cornering at Jerez......they do NOT have a problem cornering!
|
I may stand corrected but I believe that a corvette won the Nurburing 24hr race recently.
Thanks Sonu |
A new Corvette would beat any Impreza in a straight line, and they handle reasonably well round corners. I heard from someone who test drove a Viper that they were surprisingly good through the twisty stuff too. To be honest, I think the idea of yank tanks not handling is true in general, but they can still make some nice handling cars when they want to.

think a new corvette can go round corners fine- then on to 170ish!!
tiggs |
That yellow one is definately to my liking. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

had the opportunity to test* this a while back - came alongside a demonstrator from Bauer Millett in Manchester - both cars had no passengers - my old sti 5 (only slightly modified) was able to pull 3 car lengths advantage over about 1/2 mile - mostly 3rd gear used - I think I would have had an even better lead from a standing start. Corvette in question was the limited edition 2000 model with all the silly flags on its livery - the driver was not holding back imo - I would still say that the corvette is surprisingly quick for such a big heavy car though.
