I used the handbrake just at the start of the turnin to get the rear end unsettled, it was on for about half a second. Then it was just a case of using the power to make it take the rest of the hairpin in a big power slide. I hadnt tried that before in a subaru, so it took me a few laps to get the hang of it properly.

And no, there is no such thing as cheeting, you use all the tools available to you in the right quantities. Too much of any of them or too little and you look a prat. :D LOL

When i have learned the car more i wont need the handbrake at all, i'll be able to just use the brakes and weight transfer to get the car in a state to drive it through a hairpin on power. Dono hairpin is actually very wide so it's not easy getting it to powerslide all the way through, much harder than a normal tight hairpin.

what do you mean danny? the typeRA with the diff open is virtually RWD anyway, 65% rear 35% front. :D

Avi 12 July 2002 11:34 PM

I'm sure on a tighter hairpin it would be no problem at all.

Never really understood the pendulum effect, but John certainly showed me how effective it can be :D

I've no idea how he does it, but sideways through Coppice (I think that's what it's called) was great Fun :D:D:D:D

Still Grinning...

I will rescan them to get rid of the lines on them. My new scanner is still in the box behind me

ChrisB 20 July 2002 12:43 PM

Right, new scanner installed. :)

Forgetting the white marks on the photo from scanning the negative, which looks sharper?

mattstant 20 July 2002 07:29 PM

quick question chris B
are you scanning negatives or prints?
I suppose im asking if you think its is worth investing in a negative scanner.
Cheers

matt

great photos by the way what kit did you use?

ChrisB 20 July 2002 09:17 PM

Hi Matt,

The photo's on Page 1 and the top one of the two above are the negatives scanned on a Minolta DiImage Scan Dual which Hoppy has very kindly lent to me.

Second photo down is the photo scanned on an HP ScanJet 4400. Interesting difference in colour brightness - I only resized the photos, nothing else.

All taken with my Minolta Dynax 5, 75-300mm Minolta AF lens and Fuji Superia ISO 400. When I brought it back in February, my short list was either the EOS300 or the Dynax 5. Very hard to choose between them. I got a very good deal on it from my local Jessops.

National Day was my 1st time at Donnington with the SLR and it was a joy to have a big zoom. All my previous vists have been with my Canon Digital Ixus.

Avi 20 July 2002 09:35 PM

Chris - YHM :D

ChrisB 20 July 2002 10:55 PM

John - top skills Sir!

Have you put different alloys on it???

johnfelstead 23 July 2002 04:10 PM

It has some scoobysport supplied MiM 17" wheels, they were on the car when i bought it.

Clarebabes 23 July 2002 04:40 PM

Having been a passenger both at Dono and at the Ring with JF, I can say that it was definitely grinning material :D
