Are PASSAT drivers the new BMW drivers. They just seem to be everywhere and always passing.

Just a couple of thoughts as to what PASSAT stands for:

PASS AT any speed!!

Pull Away So Stupidly At T junctions!!

Why do they all seem to be TDi's as well.

Anyone add anymore.

chiark 12 July 2002 08:31 AM

Have to agree - there's loads of passat drivers, particularly the TDI drivers with the red "DI" bit, that drive like the New Road Owners league.

Dunno why. Seems to be a fairly big chip on the shoulder?

davyboy 12 July 2002 08:39 AM

Because they have an image problem.

The cars have a better image than Mondeos and Vectras but not as good as Audis BMWs and mercs, and they feel the need to prove this.

Dave's amateur psychology lesson for today.

Hol 12 July 2002 08:52 AM

Nah, they'll never take over from BMW's.

Not all Passats have front foglights for some **** to leave on.

Dave T-S 12 July 2002 08:53 AM

The red DI ones are the Pump Duse engines. Have you seen the torque curve or how quick these things are cross country!!

RICH WILD 12 July 2002 08:53 AM

TDI

Stands for TOTAL D1CKHEAD INSIDE.

Why do they all think because they have a turbo that they can top Mach 1?

Audis and Golfs are the worst

I'm sure not all TDI drivers are nobs, just most of them :D

I'm not so sure - I think it's just that cars that are well screwed together tend to make their drivers feel invulnerable, so they're driven more aggressively. I've had particularly bad experiences with people driving Saabs.

It's something of which I've become particularly aware since getting my Westfield a few weeks ago - people just don't seem to see it at all. It's bright, canary yellow for gawd's sake! They just look for a gap in traffic at their own eye level, see right over the top of me in my Westy, and think 'there's a gap, I'll pull into it'. Even something like a Focus becomes intimidating when it's three feet behind your head with nothing in between.

IanWatson 12 July 2002 09:01 AM

and these are comments coming from Scooby drivers? :) ;)

P20SPD 12 July 2002 09:21 AM

I am certainly a Scooby driver, but dont have chip on shoulder about people passing me, its the way they do it.

eg when they put their engine in my boot whilst they wait for you to move out of the way. it just seems daft to me.

Yes the T(RED)DI do seem to shift on and certainly have alot of torque.

My brother in law is on about getting the 150bhp golf gttdi. i think he is suicidal, as he already drives too quickly in his rover 25 2litre diesel, which pulls from 30 in 4th like there is no tomorrow.

petew 12 July 2002 12:15 PM

As a former Terzo owner and now a "Total Dickhead Inside" owner these comments are obviuosly made by "my p*nis is larger than yours cos i can go from 0-60 in 5.5 secs" drivers and not true impreza owners...... Not taking issue with anyone in particular my reasons to change were purely on Family safety and running costs. I would not want to drive up the arse of anyone no matter what car i drive... there are d*ckheads driving allsorts of cars these days, including Passats and Impreza's. Perhaps these sorts of posts are more suited to the Maxpower brigade...........

i like the TDI ... i really like 40+ mpg and still maintaining good progress cross country... i also really like the fact that not every policeman wants to stop you and say is this your car!!!!!!

Guys keep it real its only a car!

Pete

Look it was not a dig, it was merely an observation, having come accross numerous over the last couple of weeks.

I also enjoy driving the wifes car which is diesel, but i still dont drive like the majority of PASSAT owners.

However, i apologies if you were offended by this post as you are obviously in the minority of PASSAT owners.

I did not wish to get into an argument, the thought of PASS AT any speed came accross me whilst driving and being overtaken by one, to which i did not change down and give chase as the "MAXPOWER BRIGADE" as you call them probably would.

My car is a tool for getting from A 2 B and a family vehicle, hence the estate. Albeit a very good car for getting from A 2 B.

Errrmmm....

You'll find a nob driving any old car if you look for it. I seem to be getting hassle from Peugeot 206's and Renault Megane Scenic's at the moment.

It's not the car - it's the driver.

If I was in my Passat, Saab, someone's Scooby or Smart car, I'd probably drive the same. I've been pulled out on by Scoob's 3 times in the last week - though I don't attribute the behaviour to the car.

True, certain cars will attract certain types of people - but any similarities drawn are always going to be sweeping generalisations at best.

PS. I do drive like a nob in the Passat! ;) :D :D

Jon1T 12 July 2002 03:30 PM

Oi- my old man's got a TDI Passat - and they're bloody quick! He's gone from being a 'I had a bloody good go on a Porsche etc today' in his old Rover 620ti's (yes he had 3) to going on about how he's geitting 50mpg at a constant 75mph! Mind you he is 60 this year...

Mind you they're crap in bends - like being on a ferry in a storm...:D

Frazer 12 July 2002 03:45 PM

I love to show TDI owners a thing or two in my Ginger Taxi (2.0 SRi Primera) they are always up for a bit of "sport" hehe. My dads got a Golf TDI (115 PD) the TDI's feel sooo fast, it feels way faster than my car but it couldnt get close. Its the feeling of torque playing tricks on your mind.

Anyone tried a W8 8 cylinder Passat yet ?

Not exciting but must have a good kickdown with the tiptronic box and 4wd. We'd all struggle against that on the motorway !

logiclee 12 July 2002 03:58 PM

It may be well screwed together but the TDI Passat in 4 cylinder form is nowhere as good as the Mondeo TDCi.

The Passat turns in and handles like it is 15 years out of date. Suspect 90% of purchases are company drivers into badge snobbery.

After much discussion I finaly got my Father in law to try the Mondeo TDCi he was going to order the VW. He has now ordered the Mondeo as he enjoys driving. He is the only manager in his company to pick the Mondeo Zetec TDCi over the Passat TDi130 SE. After much abuse at his regional meeting he asked how many had driven the Mondeo, answer none.

G/f has a TDci - seems to be heavy on front tyres after 8k of mixed motoring - tyre pressures always checked every week.

Could be something to do with the chassis encouraging hooligan behaviour !

Also not as quiet on the move as expected

NBW 12 July 2002 07:58 PM

LOL @ IanWatson!

Must be tough being passed by someone doing twice your mpg ;)

PS Scooby gone :(:(:(, Golf PD150 arrives Monday :D:D:D:D:D

Sieze 12 July 2002 10:10 PM

Hang on chaps! I have a passat TDi !!!! My last car was an STi type RA and I drive a 539 Bhp Ultima on the weekend but I like my passat! Just rember it's easy to make generalisations ....any of those people agreeing with the thread racist?
