Hello,

I currently own a MKII MR2 for over a year now, I would really like an Impreza STi or something along those lines, I have been to look at a couple, both imports, and both have cracked dashboards on the passenger sides... what's all that about, this seemed to put me off a bit, is it just coincedence or is this a common problem, Im looking to spend about £10k on one what can I get for my money and what should I look out for????

Thanks

C

£10k will probably get you an STi Version3 or maybe an STi version 4 with higher (60k) mileage.
If you are buying privately I would take along a mechanic or have an RAC inspection.
If buying from a dealer then you will be better protected but I would still get someone to look it over.
Obviously full service history is vital.
Check for blue smoke from the exhaust, crash damage etc etc (sure someone here will give you an idea of what can be inspected visually while a mechanic can check out the oily bits !

Also check out the FAQ on www.sidc.co.uk

Hope that helps.
The search is now working on here so I would take some time & do a little homework on here.

Hope you find what you are looking for.

Thanks,

Also, what are the insurance groups for the STi???

My insurance company has it as a group 20 though quots seem to vary wildly from broker to broker.

Again - a search for "insurance" brings up loads of links

My MY98 STi4 is group 20.
I paid around 900 full comp.

Try Jay or Lee at A-Plan 0845 0711234 they have always been the cheapest for me for this car and all others.

My STi does not have a cracked dashboard either and to be honest I have never heard of that problem before.
