Right, who voted this bunch of nutters in?

http://www.ananova.com/news/story/sm...=news.politics

"Property owners will be taxed on the sale as well as the purchase of homes under proposals drawn up in Downing Street."

"People will pay more tax the longer they live in their home to encourage them to move around."

"At the moment you pay stamp duty when you purchase a house and that creates rigidity and inhibits efficiency because people try to avoid moving around to avoid the stamp duty."

B******* does it, it means we've got a nice house in a nice area with nice neighbours and don't want to move you stupid t*****!

DJ Dunk 09 July 2002 09:43 AM

Holy cr@p When do they expect to do this !!!???

I'm selling mine at the moment :(

scoob_babe 09 July 2002 09:47 AM

I saw that this morning.
does that mean our lovely President is gonna pay for all land searches, estate agent fees and solicitors bills not to mention all the time off required to find a new home, pack up old one and redecorate the new one?!!?!?!

Puff The Magic Wagon! 09 July 2002 09:52 AM

Last time we moved house it was a fckin' nightmare

NFW & get lost!

Emigration?

father_jack 09 July 2002 10:26 AM

It does say this further down the article

He told the newspaper that stamp duty on the purchase of houses should be cut to compensate for the introduction of a new tax on sales.

This part will never happen though

druddle 09 July 2002 11:14 AM

Well looking at this and the fekkin weather today (July ! yeah right) Australia here we come.

After we get married it will take alot to stop us ;)

Luke 09 July 2002 11:31 AM

Brilliant News.... We get closser to a full scale revolution everyday!!

The time has come.

DavidBrown 09 July 2002 11:39 AM

I never voted for the f/uckers in the first place.

Trouble is, Labour are all image no substance, and people (unfortunately) are swayed by image.

Mo 09 July 2002 11:41 AM

Druddle, you got it in one mate.

Just another 9 months and I'll hopefully have my VISA through.

DavidRB 09 July 2002 11:41 AM

Tony's just jealous that the house he sold in Islington (for about £600k) when he moved to No. 10 is now worth about £1.5m!

This is Big Brother, will all citizens please put their remaining cash in the diary room as the govt wants to spend it on things for Tony & his cronies...

DavidBrown 09 July 2002 11:43 AM

But at least they can say they've not put up income tax eh ? (Despite taxing us more and more in everything we do).

father_jack 09 July 2002 01:49 PM

I've been thinking here (doesn't happen often)
Labour were the ones who put bloody stamp duty up to 3% (>250k) in the first place.
Now if that is stifling the market then they should remove that tax not add another tax which penalises people for living in their own fecking home for longer.

I'm not standing for this one (I am in fact sitting down) no really I'm not.

RaZe-=Buzz=- 09 July 2002 01:55 PM

I bought a house last October that the wife and I intend to stay in 'till we either die or can't get about in it. Im 30, she is 34, and we have a 2 year old boy.

Looks like I got in just in time, eh? Wont stop me ejecting John Tosspot from East Hull though :D as soon as I get the chance. Already booted his mates out of the Council at the locals this year :D:D

RaZe-=Buzz=- 09 July 2002 02:03 PM

Colleague at work has just read this over my shoulder - he suggests making monday "Shoot a politician day".

Reasoning is thus - if EVERYONE on Monday shoots a politician then we will be rid of ALL of them. You dont have to shoot one from any particular party, you can choose any as they all should be shot. Some should be shot more than once to "make sure you got 'im"

This way we will get to spend our OWN money, and not rely on a shower of bas*ards to do it "on our behalf". But you need to bring your own semi-automatic as he cant supply guns or ammunition.

His name is Roy, e-mail add is info@lasercroft.com

:D

ariel 09 July 2002 05:11 PM

They will never do this, but love the Shoot a politician" idea.
Pity it's with laser

ChrisB 09 July 2002 05:17 PM

Cue some frantic back peddling...

http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/uk_...00/2117467.stm

"Downing Street admitted the proposals, by in-coming health department chief economist Barry McCormick, were raised at a seminar during a "freewheeling" discussion on housing policy."

"But a spokesman insisted it did not reflect current government thinking.

Stamp duty was a tax "and that is a matter for the treasury not the health department", the prime minister's spokesman said."

ScoobyJawa 09 July 2002 05:25 PM

Hoorah - ScoobyNet does it again - I knew those government types read the board ;)

:D

RaZe-=Buzz=- 09 July 2002 08:48 PM

See? Who said Violence doesnt solve anything? One SNIFF of an AK and they scarper.

I take full credit for this.

DavidRB 09 July 2002 09:24 PM

in-coming health department chief economist Barry McCormick
Hello??? Health Department? Don't you have enough to do with your time? Like counting all the money you waste each year??

Still, I thought it was a statement by an actual politician. Silly me, I forgot, this is New Labour, the MPs don't do anything, it's government by appointed civil-servant.

Oh, was it me, or did anyone notice that the BBC site seemed to keep this story off the front page?

pslewis 09 July 2002 10:03 PM

Sadly the alternative is even MORE unpalatable :(

Its not so long ago we had a bunch in called the Tories - they single handedly dismantled the country and built greed and corruption into every walk of life!! :(

Nah, sorry - we have the best available at the moment - so lets get on with it ;)

Pete

ChrisB 09 July 2002 10:34 PM

Nah, Pete. Diablo would do better than this lot :D

rr_ww 09 July 2002 11:11 PM

Its about time some people started new political parties. Time it right, do some clever intelligent advertising, make yourself accountabble to the public. And you'll sweep to power in a landslide next election (May 2005?) The general public, I think, are sick to death of the current bunch. but because there really is NO alternatives we continue (not me personally) to vote for the idiots. Even abstainig doesn't help because you get a small majority who believe the sun shines out...

Richard

Yep, and we still have that, but now with higher taxes.

NotoriousREV 10 July 2002 12:49 PM

Yeah, we need a party for the people, which is what old laboiur tried to be, but they never got voted in. It's seems that what people think they want and what people will vote for are 2 different things.

Vote for me, I'll abolish speed cameras, improve public transport, make people accountable for their own actions, make it harder to sue people for no reason, clamp down on fraudulent benefits claimants, restrict Legal Aid, help local government improve their services, let teachers get on with taching instead of doing paperork, stop the immigration flow unless the potential immigrant has something to offer our society. You'll pay for it in taxes, but at least it won't be via stealth taxes.

Whose support do I have? And I'm deadly serious.

Bravo2zero_sps 10 July 2002 01:04 PM

Yeah but Notorious don't you drive an Evo? That makes u worse than the current lot! :p

(Sorry couldn't resist) :D

Nimbus 10 July 2002 03:10 PM

So what exactly do you need to do to create a new politcal party? Can anyone start up a part and stand for election?

NotoriousREV 10 July 2002 04:49 PM

Yeah but Notorious don't you drive an Evo? That makes u worse than the current lot!
Certainly not

While my government will actively support Evo drivers, we beleive that Subaru's are superior and will be changing the rules on Road Fund Licencing to reflect this. Just wait til you see how much a Nova, Corsa or Saxo driver will have to pay ;)

Bravo2zero_sps 10 July 2002 05:04 PM

Hahahaha my apologies to you then, confusing you with someone else on here!

I'll get me coat! :p

father_jack 07 September 2002 10:16 AM

Jesus feckin christ

"At the moment you pay stamp duty when you purchase a house and that creates rigidity and inhibits efficiency because people try to avoid moving around to avoid the stamp duty."

"Sales stamp duty would increase with each year the vendor lives in the house, making it more expensive to stay put"

- So people aren't moving becuase stamp duty is too high, so they tax us more to stay put as an incentive. Twots! Now nobody will ever move.

ScoobyJawa 07 September 2002 10:33 AM

Right so the lazy ass incompetant government sit back and do feck all when you buy a house but for some reason as well as the impending council tax you have to pay them, you also must pay them just to buy the place.

They now want to charge those selling for doing feck all as well. TONY BLAIR AND LABOUR MUST BE CHUCKED OUT

They are taking the fecking p!ss

What are they achieving? I'll tell you what. In order for the seller to cover the tax, they'll put the property price up to cover the tax they have to pay. As the property will be more expensive so will the stamp duty to buy it be more expensive and less and less first time buyers will be able to afford to get on the property ladder, forcing prices higher in an already inflated market.

This is just yet another joke from our utterly useless government that just wants to shaft everyone left right and centre.
