Labour were the ones who put bloody stamp duty up to 3% (>250k) in the first place.
Now if that is stifling the market then they should remove that tax not add another tax which penalises people for living in their own fecking home for longer. [img]images/smilies/mad.gif[/img]

I bought a house last October that the wife and I intend to stay in 'till we either die or can't get about in it. Im 30, she is 34, and we have a 2 year old boy.

Colleague at work has just read this over my shoulder - he suggests making monday "Shoot a politician day".

Reasoning is thus - if EVERYONE on Monday shoots a politician then we will be rid of ALL of them. You dont have to shoot one from any particular party, you can choose any as they all should be shot. Some should be shot more than once to "make sure you got 'im"

This way we will get to spend our OWN money, and not rely on a shower of bas*ards to do it "on our behalf". But you need to bring your own semi-automatic as he cant supply guns or ammunition.

Its about time some people started new political parties. Time it right, do some clever intelligent advertising, make yourself accountabble to the public. And you'll sweep to power in a landslide next election (May 2005?) The general public, I think, are sick to death of the current bunch. but because there really is NO alternatives we continue (not me personally) to vote for the idiots. Even abstainig doesn't help because you get a small majority who believe the sun shines out...

Yeah, we need a party for the people, which is what old laboiur tried to be, but they never got voted in. It's seems that what people think they want and what people will vote for are 2 different things.

Vote for me, I'll abolish speed cameras, improve public transport, make people accountable for their own actions, make it harder to sue people for no reason, clamp down on fraudulent benefits claimants, restrict Legal Aid, help local government improve their services, let teachers get on with taching instead of doing paperork, stop the immigration flow unless the potential immigrant has something to offer our society. You'll pay for it in taxes, but at least it won't be via stealth taxes.

While my government will actively support Evo drivers, we beleive that Subaru's are superior and will be changing the rules on Road Fund Licencing to reflect this. Just wait til you see how much a Nova, Corsa or Saxo driver will have to pay ;)

Right so the lazy ass incompetant government sit back and do feck all when you buy a house but for some reason as well as the impending council tax you have to pay them, you also must pay them just to buy the place.

They now want to charge those selling for doing feck all as well. TONY BLAIR AND LABOUR MUST BE CHUCKED OUT

What are they achieving? I'll tell you what. In order for the seller to cover the tax, they'll put the property price up to cover the tax they have to pay. As the property will be more expensive so will the stamp duty to buy it be more expensive and less and less first time buyers will be able to afford to get on the property ladder, forcing prices higher in an already inflated market.

This is just yet another joke from our utterly useless government that just wants to shaft everyone left right and centre.
