Never driven either... But from reviews:

1) sacrifice practicality and gain a few more microseconds in performance for track days - go for Evo 7
2) you already know how practical a Scoob is... - just imagine yours with 280 bhp :D and better handling :D :D :D

Face it what choice do you have? ;)

Well hopefully this is an unbiased opinion as in the last three year i've had a P1, evo6, evo7, and now drive an M5.

I have to say that i still dream of the P1!
Everyone i know says periodically "that subaru with the big spoiler was the best car you ever had" And i do tend to agree with them.
It all depends what you want the car for. If its balls out driving 100% of the time then the evo6 is probably the better car. If you want lots of comfort with masses of power but without the flickability then the M5 is the car for you. If you drive at 90% everyday then the evo7 is the car for you.....but if you want most of the above things in a great looking car with suspension you can live with everyday and the performance when you want it has to be the P1.
Just one thing though, go for a p1 with uprated brakes and 18inch wheels-they make a huge difference.

P1 looks good probably not as "mean" as the Evo.
Dicks got one so you can have a fair race :D
Subaru = reliability
Servicing / parts / fitting, I think thats covered ;)
I say give it about four/six weeks to have a think about it ;) :D

P1 you can get for low 20's

I prefer the 6.5 version myself which you can get for mid to low 20s but these cars are very close in standard trim. Anyone says differently they dont know what they are talking about ;). In real life day to day driving no much in it. Round a track it would depend on the driver. Drive them both and weigh up the pros and cons as there are pros and cons to both. I did and decided agianst an EVO. Also just for a laugh get an insurance quote on a modified 400bhp EVO if you can ;).

Having owned one (P1) and driven the other i would agree totally with what Doc1 says.
The Evo is a more focused and harsh track day weapon that demands your fullest attention at all times if you are to avoid disappearing through the hedge backwards. I couldn't live with it on a day to day basis but for a balls out thrash it was awesome.

The P1 on the other hand is excellent in all areas but will allow you the choice to grab it by the scruff and the neck and give it a good shoeing or if you like just progress swiftly along in relative comfort without shaking your fillings out. It flatter's even the poorest of drivers skills and forgives your momentary laps in driving finesse. That said it is still an awesome car on the track.

Best way to find out is to drive one. You will instantly warm to one of the other.

Owned both 6 and P1 Got to be the 6 for pure handling and awesome performance.
P1 is a great looker with excellent road manners but the 6 just says F... Off with that awesome front and maniac acceleration.
Try em both and i'm sure you will agree.

Oh ye i dont like the 7 lost its edge in the looks department IMHO, get a TM 6 they is :cool: and save yourself a few quid :)

Sorry to say, its GOT to be a proper 4 door!!

The EVO takes the prize easy ........... :(

bit biased really but for everyday use the evo will shake ur fillings out..it looks superb but is just a bit too track car for the road..p1 easier to live with and almost as fast

I have owned and EVO V and currently own a P1.

EVO: Agressive as f*ck, mental, harsh, loud, one purpose - to go fast. More tuning potential than the subaru, VERY bad on fuel (but does have a small tank)

P1 - Smoother, sounds better, above 70mph not much between the two, looks better (IMHO), lower profile than the EVO, much more user-friendly

Personaly, my choice would be the P1, a very swift and useable car. The EVO is a little too harsh for day-to-day use.

For all you people that say you can't live with an Evo for everyday driving, have you tried it (apart from POC :D)

I've done 45,000 miles in mine in just over a year and a half and I've still got all my fillings and not got any back problems. The only thing I have is a bloody big smile on my face every time I get up in the morning and every time I get out of the car after a run out.
Also, everyone on here goes on about how you have a crap time because of the poor fuel consumption with an Evo. Fuel CONSUMPTION is about the same with a 280bhp scooby as it is with a 280bhp Evo. The only thing is that the Evo has a smaller tank and so the range is shorter.

4,500 mile services can be a pain (I know, I've done 9 of them so far!:o:o) but if you want the best performance then it doesn't come cheap.

I also agree that if you do go for the P1 then definitely get the upgraded brakes. I test drove one a while back for a comparison with the Evo and the first corner I came too I was very surprised at the lack of bite in the standard brakes compared to the Evo. It is also a lot softer sprung than the Evo and so tends to be more comfortable around town etc... However, like I said above, you do get used to the ride in the Evo and it doesn't seem as bad after a few weeks.

However, these are all my personal opinions. My best recommendation would be to go and test drive both and make up your own mind.

Threads like this make me smile. Yes, a few people have driven both but most seem to post based on what they read in mags.

First, the whole myth that an Evo is difficult to live with everyday. A friend has a Honda Type R and says the Evo is more refined. My wife says it isn't much worse than her TT. I average 1500 miles a month and yes, it doesn't ride like a BMW but it is well within the bounds of reasonable. A really strange thing is that my 4 year old daughter gets carsick in all cars but the Evo!

Fuel consumption - if the car is properly set up, you will get 20 mpg minimum. On long motorway journeys it goes up to about 23/4. If you want to drive like Tommi all the time then be prepared to pay for the petrol!

As for the arguement of 6 verses 7, the only thing that the 6 has over the 7 is more agressive looks and we all know looks are a personal thing. However, in the driving department I don't know anybody who has driven both seriously and who doesn't believev that the 7 is a noticably better car.

Finally, to answer the question, I am going to cop out ;) There is only 1 way to decide and that is to properly test drive the cars yourself. For me, its the Evo any day. It is just so much more focussed and doesn't comprimise at all, which is what I want. However, everybodies view of what meets their needs is different (or else how do they sell Daewoo's!!!) so make your own mind up.

Hie thee hither to the dealers of aforementioned and try 'em both. It's a great predicament to have, isn't it?

Personally, I'd compare the STI VII with the Evo VII - they're closer cars.

My mate's Evo VI is damn quick and he loves it to bits as a daily driver. Still got all his fillings. Yes, its stiffly sprung but not uncomfortably so - I've refined my thoughts on this ;). The only annoyance to him is the MPG and tank size. But if that's the only downer...

I've also driven the STI VII (and P1 FWIW), and I do really love the STI, especially with a free-flow exhaust on it.

I'd go towards the STI VII myself, but there again you see a LOT less Evos nowadays.

Extended test drive of both is probably the only way to decide. And even after that, I think I'd be flipping a coin ;) :D
