If i decide to get rid of my e30 m3 and get me a scooby........which do you lovely peeps think i should get......import or uk????.....i have had a insurance quote for a wrx and to be honest it was taking the *iss!!!..........makes my m3 insurance look like the best in the world!.........
And also are there common nasty problems with scooby's????........coz i need a reliable car because i do at least 40 or 50 miles a day to work.
And it needs to shoot flames from the exhaust and scare people like my m3!!
.......and what are they like on petrol???....as i have said b4...my mates evo 6 needs a fuel tanker every day!!!....how does it compare??

Expect 20-24 mpg realistically - on a run you may get better.

If you can get insurance on a WRX or STI, you'll be getting a better spec car but it does appear that insurance is a MAJOR downer at the moment. Servicing can't be done at a subaru dealer (well, at least not through the front door), but there's specialists around that will give us as good, if not better, service for a good price.

Regarding flames, it seems that the best way is to remove cats - this may work alone. If it doesn't, then fit a dump-to-atmosphere dump valve. The ECU will assume that the volume of air going through the engine will include what has been dumped out of the valve, and therefore overfuel.

There have been some reports of dump to atmosphere BOVs causing idling and other problems though...

Personally, if I could get the insurance, I'd go for a 2 door, preferably a type R, and keep it for a loooong time. Or buy cheap - I know of someone who got a mint WRX for around 6k recently...

Import or UK?? If insurance is a problem, then stick with a UK car. They are group 17, while an import may be treated as a group 19-20!

If you want an import then there are specialist companies that will insure you, usually subject to a Cat 1 alarm, a tracker (sometimes) and it depends on presious cars owned (but an M3 should be fine) I use Greenlight, and there are no issues with modifications, etc, and they cover imports, so give them a try.

Japanese cars are designed for 100 octane fuel, so should be run at a minimum on Super unleaded petrol (and probably octane booster if you are going to drive it hard most of the time) A UK car can get away with normal unleaded, but you'll find it runs much nicer on super.

Also it's easier to get the imports through emmission tests at the MOT cos they don't need CATs to pass, so if you're going to modify it, get an import. If you go for an import you MUST get the cleanest un-modified lowest mileage you can afford.

Getting an unmodified import may be interesting. I'm still finding bits on the blackbeast I never knew I had (current find is a nice set of air horns! yay! no more nissan micra horn)
