You do really need a boost gauge.

I have a TEK 2 /3 and it is far superior to a PPP Ecu, in terms of Torque / BHP and general driveability. I'm amazed at the difference the ECU has made over the PPP Ecu.

Do ITG pay for an engine rebuild if the car goes pop after have a filter fitted.......No

You don't have to have a decat, but it's advisable ;)

A few questions (thought better to post than e-mail as the answers may be of benefit to the community):

1) Is TEK2 (in broad terms) the equivalent of PPP?
2) Does it require a full decat?
3) What sort of warranty comes with it?
4) Is it advisable to have a boost gauge if you have TEK2?
5) Is there a TEK1->TEK2 upgrade path? Since the price of the ECU is incidental (they're on an exchange basis), you're paying for the intellectual property. So if you buy TEK1 (£150) is it possible to get £150 knocked off the price of TEK2 should you decide to upgrade later?

A few observations rather than answers...

1) By PPP I guess you mean in terms of power/torque increase?

2) I think it is optimised for cars with induction/exhaust mods but does not mandate them.

3) By this I assume what comeback from EcuTec do you get if it goes pop? There is also the interesting issue that many seem to think it is warranty friendly in that you can't tell it's been done...as if IM aren't monitoring the situation and keeping an eye on things...and wouldn't be suspicious.

4)I wouldn't have thought so other than for you own curiosity as it's a safish up to boost in a similar manner to the PPP ECU, rather than some dodgy MBC or whatever.

5)Don't know, in the worst case you can always sell it on...it's not like they are going to deteriorate over the time so shouldn't lose too much value.

You missed the all important question: when is it available for MY01+?;) Go on EcuTek, you know you want to commit to a date...go on...go on...;):D

5) Doesn't work like that -- all units are on an exchange basis. So if you go TEK1->TEK2 you have to exchange your existing ECU (which has been TEK1'd) for the TEK2 ECU.

PE will knock £150 off the price of a TEK 2 if you upgrade from a TEK 1. Or that's what they told me earlier this week.

I think a boost gauge is a good idea on any turbocharged car, as it can and does go funny at times. A minority of people have low or high boost on the Tek 2 as they do any other ECU including the standard and PPP ones, if you are self installing a boost gauge is important. Each car seems slightly different on boost pressures even with the same or no breathing mods. Boost control with 2 port solenoids and internal wastegates and not full closed loop control is sometimes a bit tricky - boost control is quite a dynamic process.
