Hi,
I'm looking to change my beloved UK94 at some time in the near(ish) future. Quite fancy something which is still "special" and quick ~ but (**Flame suit on**) more refinded. Has anyone any experience of a Merc C36 AMG ? 3.6L straight 6 280 BHP 290 lt/ft torque 0-60 6 seconds So its not embarassingly slow. Thanks Mark |

My boss at a previous firm had one - very nice car. Beautifully built and a nice 'Q' car as they are quite discreet. Did have the annoying habit of going through a set of rear tyres every 5000 miles if you turned the traction control off though http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif I think you'll be impressed if you drive one. The motor I went to look at was a 1994, I'm looking for a '97, but this '94 was immaculate. 1 owner, low(ish) miles, FMBSH....hmmm could talk myself into this !
Rears were HUGE at 245 /40/17 with new Toyo T1-S all round. Looked a great "Q" car which is what I'm after. Just trying to get an insurance quote on one http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif Cheers Mark |
Hi,
I had a C36 for some time and it is a fantastic car. Amazing high speed cruiser and not to shabby round the track http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif Iain |
Have to say, my only experience with one left me very unimpressed. Swift 'exec express' it may be, but IMO too soft with vague, uncommunicative steering, and just didn't feel fast - too easy to go too fast http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/eek.gif Have also driven a C43, that was much better http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif
...and this from someone who has gone to a 330d http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/eek.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif |
GaryC,
Too soft ~ really with the AMG suspension ? Haven't test driven one yet so I can't comment, but it look very low and stiffy sprung ! Maybe too much of a license looser IMO, at least my Subaru is noisy so at speed the car makes its presence known. The C36 is probably too quiet for my liking.... Will have to try it and see. Cheers M |
I drove the C36 AMG & E36 AMG back to back at a local Merc dealer open day, and the E36 won hands down. Much better ride, handled well, had a really nice interior (the C36 was tartan inside) and more roomy. Both went like stink (relatively) but didn't feel as quick as the S600, boy that thing had some torque. I don't think the salesman was too impressed when I told him the car was worth more than my house though.

I'm sure I can get someone to "sort" the suspension if necessary.
Could I live without the Subaru is the **REAL** question I should be asking myself. Each time the answer is NO http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif |
Hi,
A friend ran one for two years, and had some quite major problems with it. I think the engine blew after four months - replaced under warranty. Autobox had to be replaced too. He said that repairs and tyre costs averaged £800 / month, but that probably says more about him then the cars. Most people get more than 4k miles out of a set of tyres and front brakes!. I thought it was nice, but the CLK he has know is much nicer. Cheers, A Alex |
Waiting for the insurance co to come back to me with a quote before I even dare take it out for a test drive !
Worried it **MIGHT** be even more expensive than the Scoob... |
