MY 87 not on the road for 8 years, front screen split, A/C 45K Miles, black with beige leather, very tempting price.

Would be my only car, some daily commute possible in near future. Would be used in town and for cross country for fun and the odd track day.

Is it a good idea in the first place (Well, Boy, if you have to ask...), and would I get to know my bank manager?

Thanks in advance.

Ralf

Everybody knows what LOTUS stands for - Lots Of Trouble - Usually Serious...

I looked at buying an older Esprit, but they just fall apart and parts are very expensive...

Ralf,

Whilst I'd be the first to say that a good Excel is not a bad car, I'd have to say that I'd be wary of one if I was you. The engines are good, but the electrics can be a nightmare.

If it has full Lotus service history and looks OK to you, then I'd say go for it. However, there is obviously a very limited market for this kind of car, so bear that in mind if you're ever going to sell it.

I'd tread carefully, but if you think it's worth going for, then just do it!

Cheers
Matt

My old boss had one.

Was nippy in a straight line and handled superbly - as you'd expect. His came with a huge wad of service notes.

He had the car 6 months and had 2 sevices which cost, including parts somewhere around £1.5k.

If I remember rightly, the tyres are also a very unusual size which makes getting replacements expensive and difficult.
