when right clicking an icon & selecting the "open with" option, it lists the programs you can open it with which is expected but now after selecting one, it opens up the "openwith" box so i have to select the prog again. Its just mildly irritating...

you didnt mention the OS but have a look at this... open up windows explorer, goto tools, folder options. goto the tab file types and select the apps you want the extension to open with.

Always use this program to open these files??

now that you mention video files, if they are .avi, then maybe you are openning a DiVX files which has the same .avi extension. you will need to install the plug-in.

yeah youre right. I do a lot of stuff with videos and have all the different codecs for all the formats. I have found that the divx stuff a bit of a pain. If you install the latest drivers some of the older vids done in divx dont work, you need the previous version drivers.

Ah! D'oh saying that, is that the answer. I uninstalled the latest drivers cos you dont need them. Perhaps it has removed the previous ones? though this cant be the case cos they all still play???

This is on Win2Kpro btw

I use these video players depending on which one it works for:

media player 6
media player 7
divx 1
divx 4
Quicktime 5
