scott davies, does not have this! I really dont think it is standard at all.

If and only if you are 100% sure of a difference between the two models ( Version 6 V Limiteds )could you list it here for me pls.....thx...ones I know of:

TYPE R = 2 door
Type R = shorter 5th Gear

Type RA 4 door (v.rare to get 2 door - not sure if exists in Version 6)
Type RA = Closed Deck Block
Type RA = Lighter
Type RA = Some sound deafening removed
Type RA = no tinted windows

TypeRA is shorter gearing just like the typeR UNLESS it's a V-Limited. Then it has a higher 5th.

I've mailed you about this John, they found me a mint Type R V Limited - not an RA :( Just wanted to know if it's worh considering really.....

john, it isnt just a higher 5th, all the gears are higher.

final drive is the same, but all 5 gears are the same as the regular 4 door sti.

as I have said before, only one we know to have a clsoed deck every time so far has been 22B.

early cars are much mroe likely to be closed, all stis I have seen have been open decked including sti type ras and type ra vlims!

Every piece of information (SIDC, IWOC, and others) I have read has lead me to believe that the STi Version 6 Type RA V Limited is produced with a closed deck block - thats why I said it, I couldn't care less if you've said it before - how am I supposed to know that.....Tell you what, you translate the Kinji dealer document that I have, then you can know for sure and rest easy eh?

I don't want to argue about it, just want to know the differences thats all.....If you know for sure then tell me so.

Version 3 STi's had a closed deck block, not sure about any others?

I drive an STi 5 TypeRA V-Limited every day, I have driven plenty of TypeR's including the 22B version, both Japanese spec and UK spec.

The gears 1st to 4th are lower than a standard STi5, 5th gear is a big jump from 4th. You have to rev the bugger in 4th to keep it on boost when you change to 5th, it's very much an overdrive gear compared to the first four.

I can quite easily do an MPH per 1000rpm listing if that is the kind of evidence you need.

MY00 version 6 WRX Type RA WRC Ltd 20mph per 1000rpm in 5th :D

My STI5 Type R certainly doesn't have a noticeable gap between 4th and 5th!!
I am not sure if you were implying that the Type R and RA V limited were different , so apologies if you were.

I would love a higher top gear to use for cruising.
As it stands its just completly manic, not really good for cruising at all, 1,2,3, 4 and 5 are all over far too quickly!!!

I AM saying the STi 5 Type RA V-Limited is diferent to the normal STi 5 TypeR. Dont forget that the STi TypeRA revs to 8250rpm, the non STi TypeRA revs to 7600rpm.

OK, I just took my STi5 TypeRA V-Limited for a run, these are the speeds per gear based on the reading on my speedo, so accuracy is down to that. My rev limiter is set at 8250rpm.

1st gear 5MPH/1000rpm Top Speed 41MPH
2nd gear 7.75MPH/1000rpm Top Speed 64MPH
3rd gear 10.25MPH/1000rpm Top Speed 84MPH
4th gear 13.75MPH/1000rpm Top Speed 112MPH
5th gear 22MPH/1000rpm Top Speed 180MPH

If that’s the same gearing as an STi5 non Type RA V-Limited I’ll eat my hat. :D

every type r I know of has lower 1 to 5 including my own! which I used to drive everyday, but sadly dont anymore.

I dont know of any other type rs which have this gap that yuo describe, but I have heard of people before having a higher 5th gear put in.

nearly all type rs that I know of have a 19.8mph/1000rpm as someone else repeated in this thread.

If they had inserted a long fifth into yours it would certainly make sense.

to me yours sounds like a better idea and was something I considered. was worried about rev drop so decided I would be better off changing final drive which doesnt affect rev drop. (although was a mistake cos sourcing a 3.9 final drive for an r180 rear diff is a pig).

I did learn from mutant matt, that scott davies/mellow yellows car did come from the factory with a closed deck block and front lsd (standard only on the 22B). We know this because he has the original purchase receipt with these options declared.

Interestingly, in the process he has a normal type r gearbox with 5 lower ratios (19.8mph/1000rpm according to matt). I wondered, since the first thing to go into the gearbox is the front diff, if the factory just lift the type r gearbox enclosing the lsd out of the parts bin (with two hands of course) and fit it as an option.

That would save them the labour of custom building the normal sti gearbox with the front lsd.

I couldnt care less if you had a closed deck block or not. It makes feck all difference to my life, I just thought you wanted your question answered and to know some more truths about your car.

My car is as it left the factory. It has never been messed with.

I am having the box rebuilt soon as 4th gear syncro is baulky, probably down to the fact it has to work hard when shifting from 5th to 4th. When its apart i will have a proper look at the gears, diff etc. It feels to me like it has a front LSD installed, even when running the centre diff at 15% locked i can feel it.

so one of yours is not standard. His for sure has a front lsd. you say yours feels like it does, and I trust you that that will mean it does.

I still think that something has happened to yours.

Never ever heard an incidence of subaru mixing components from different gearsets, especially when in makes for an odd fourth to fifth change!

dont take sidc faq as gospel. There are several misconceptions in it, including the standard 300ps of many of the later cars.

I discovered the bhp figures were wrong after speaking to the guy in Japan about the STi 6 Type R V Limited he's found me (I wanted a Type RA V Limited), but then the type R might have a longer 5th in it already *shrug*

How much to put a longer 5th gear in it do you think? (ballpark)

the gear itself is the cheap 0.738 from any uk car or sti.

the labour I paid last time for removing stripping and rebuilding my gearbox was about £500.
I think you will probably get it for £500 or less all in.

the type ra especially the v lims are vary rare, but to the unsuspecting public, 4 door imprezas are a dime a dozen.

2 doors on the other hand are not!

4 door is more practical though, but chassis is not as rigid as the 2 door for obvious reasons.

obvious things also liek you cant open the rear windows at all in the type r.

and all non P1 type rs have tinted rear windows where the glass itself is tinted and so cant be removed.

MY has just got back to me.

His 1st to 4th is the same as mine, his 5th is 20.25MPH/1000rpm based on his speedo.

I think we need to find another V-Limited to get the definitive answer, i thought one of teh selling features of teh TypeRA V-Limited was it's higher 5th gear for cruising? :confused: I know one thing, that ratio setup suits me down to the ground with my long trips to Germany followed by a good session at the ring on track. Maybe the guy specked it knowing i was going to buy the car. :D;)

My V-Limited has a quickrack, i dont think the Type R's have that?

I think his is normal (except for front lsd) and your car is the freak.

if you find another one, it will probably be different again!

dont think the hard and fast rules can be relied upon with limited editions.

My car is not a freak Adam, it's SPECIAL! :D LOL

I found another SPECIAL feature the other day, the intercooler sprays didnt work in automatic mode when i bought it. Pity they plugged the front foglight connector into the intercooler switch wasnt it! LOL

It now eats water at a fair old rate rather than trying to turn the front fogs on when the boost kicks in! :D (i know, it doesnt have any fogs behind the blanking plates, but its a funny image to me :D)
