Just had my downpipe fitted, but they didn't put any of the heatshields back on because they wouldn't fit. I knew the top one need cutting to fit.

Is it essential for me to get them fitted because there is a huge space around the downpipe which will keep it cool?

you need something around it to stop the heat melting stuff - i.e. steering column and anything else nearby (can't remember )

make the heatsheild fit or exhaust wrap it

What do you suggest to lag the pipe? What price?

www.merlinmotorsport.co.uk do a 5m roll, 2" wide for about £10, they also do a stainless steel strap kit for £9 or so, I just ordered both to do mine.

This is the best price I have seen for a shorter length of wrape, otherwise you have to buy 15m of it.

Cheers. I'll probably have a go at putting the top heatshield back on first after a bit of chopping.

I have done that too on a 94 style engine. THe heatshield is real pain to get off, with 8 screws, 2 of which you can only get to from under the car.

I cut, bent and hammered my heatshield, so I haven't cut any away as such.

Have decided to go for the exhaust wrap from Cooltek.
Found this site http://www.proven-products.co.uk/products/cooltek.htm - £14.43 + vat for 5m of wrap and 3m of straps and 15 clips. Bargain.
