Right then. Me in my 3-door and my mate in a 4x4 sapphire cosworth are up for this.
Unfortunatly as I have never been before I need the big print explantion with pictures.
Anyone answer these for me?
Who else is going?
Where and what day are we meeting up for the trip down?
Do we have to book the hotel and tunnel ourselves?
If we do, can anyone reccomend a good but cheap hotel?
If not who do we give the money to?
Do we need european insurance cover and is it invalid on the circuit?
What else do we need to make the cars legal over the channel?
Sound restrictions on the circuit, are they enforeced rigidly or is there some leeway?
cheers in advance,
astraboy.

Astraboy,
I will try and answer a few of these, its my first time to the ring also.

Well, I am going out on Friday and back Monday

I booked my own hotel and run into trouble finding anywhere near the ring that has anything available because of the sprint meeting going on at the same time. Ended up booking a hotel nearly 40 miles away.

Booked my own ferry crossing to. Tip here on www.posl.com sign up on the website, the discount is huge if you do, got my fare from £179 to £114 for the same times.

Your insurance will once in europe by default only cover you for the minimum requirement in the country you are passing through, most likely third party only. excluding fire/theft. My insurer charged £15 to extend fully comp for 4 days to europe. Should be valid on the track as its officially a public road but best read the small print in the policy.

I'll try as well:

Anyone answer these for me? I'll try
Who else is going? Its a long list but includes at least the following: Me, Davyboy and clarebabes, Mellow, Gossy, John Felstead, Manny, Askew, Jon Reeves aka Bike2track....
Where and what day are we meeting up for the trip down? some of us are going down on the Thursday, others are going on Friday
Do we have to book the hotel and tunnel ourselves?entirely up to you. You could contact Jon @ bike2track (www.bike2track.com) to make a booking via him or DIY
If we do, can anyone reccomend a good but cheap hotel?sorry can't help on this one. I've booked it through Jon. Usually I stay for free in Cologne, but am being more sociable this time
If not who do we give the money to? depends how you book, there ain't an official Scoobynet thing for this
Do we need european insurance cover and is it invalid on the circuit? Your insurance should be OK. The Ring is classed as a 1 way public toll road, not a circuit. As Manny says, check with your insurance co if you are fully comp whilst in Europe. If not, make it so
What else do we need to make the cars legal over the channel?Halfords have a leaflet that shows the regs for each country in Europe eg spare bulbs, warning triangle, first aid kit etc
Sound restrictions on the circuit, are they enforeced rigidly or is there some leeway?Yes there are noise limits. They do random tests. If they fail you you ain't allowed to play until you get it fixed. Can't remember if its 95 or 98 db. Check Ben's site www.nurburgring.org.uk for info

OK?

Cheers Tav, thanks. I will check bens site for hotel bookings.
I hope they speak astraboy!

give jon at Bike2Track a call, he is cheeper and less hasle than anyone else for hotels and ferries.

You need european breakdown cover, Jon can sell you this too.

Get a green card for your insurance. Make sure you take all your documents with you as if you are involved in an acident on the circuit the police will ask for them!

Noise is strictly enforced. Best advice if you are loud is park away from the toll booths and then be very gentle on the throttle until you are away from the toll gates.

One extra note, it's likely there will be lots of bikers on track if the weather is good. Please give them plenty of room, especially near corner entry as their lines are very diferent to a cars and they are very vulnerable. Dont get frustrated if they get in the way, it's very easy to kill a biker on this track.

What time are you getting the ferry on Friday?

TaviaRS 02 July 2002 07:44 AM

0700 on Thursday.

Mellow Yellow ! 02 July 2002 08:19 AM

Me to :)

John, have we any confirmation details yet ?

TaviaRS 02 July 2002 08:29 AM

Nah, sent a mail to Jon at Bike2track to get mine changed to the 0700, ain't heard back yet. I'll give him a bell later today. Not sure if Gossy is going :(. And this will probably be the last trip for the slow black Skoda. Next time I'll take either a XR2 or 205 1.9GTI.

owbow 06 July 2002 06:22 PM
