Just a few of the latest pics of my Rover 220 GSi turbo. I;ve had a load of trouble with a dodgy body work chap trying his best to bodge up my tailgate, but I've fixed the spoiler and repainted the tailgate and spoiler my self in my garage, I was rather pleased with the results. Anyway, let me know what you think :)

What size/spec are those front brakes, they look huge!

The front brakes are 325mm 12 groove disks with 4 pots from Godspeed, work very well, much better than standard, but were a pig to fit and included a trip to my chums engineering workshop to finally machine a good fit :o

Currently running 11psi and with filter and exhaust is looking around 225bhp - but the brakes and suspension upgrades mean I can use a lot more of it :) . Next mod is to change the naff 230mm rear brakes to the 260mm from the MG ZS, which is a straight swap - just need the disks and the caliper carriers and it's done, which help balance the brakes up again.

I've also got an Omex traction control system sitting in a box in my bedroom ready to be fitted, so that should help things out a bit.

At some point I'd love to go mental and get all the internals replaced with strengthened bits then I could up the boost and bung on nitrous with an aim of getting over 300bhp reasonably reliably - to that end I've already got a Quaife ATB diff on order to help put the power down :)

I bought a N reg 220 Turbo Coupe 3 years ago with 40 miles on the clock. It was one of those ones that Rover failed to sell to Japan and re-kitted them to UK spec (but kept all the jap goodies like leather, aircon etc). Rover stored them away for years then decided to sell them. I loved that car but they handled like a fish on an ice rink.....

I thought they suffered from a bit of torque steer being front wheel drive?

Evening Phil, looking good there bro ;)

The standard setup on the 220 turbos is a bit wooly, but some suspension upgrades certainly make for better handling. I've got Eibachs, Powerflex bushes up front and a front strut brace. All that certainly tightens things up and vertually iliminates the torque steer. Steering itself becamce noticably sharper after putting the bushes on and general handling was much improved with the Eibach springs. Being a 3 door hatch, as opposed to the coupe, also gives you a stronger chassis to start with so it's not doing too bad :)

The sub's only actually a 12", but sounds very nice. Its built as an SQ system and does a lovely job.

Just laughing 'cos that's what I used to do - spent crap loads on power and some looks - nothing on brakes, suspension, decent tyres - could never work out why I couldn't win races... I learnt my lesson fast...

But I've got 6 pot Tarox brakes on the front, Yoko Tyres, Koni Adjustable suspension, strut braces uprated anti roll bar and a full set of PowerFlex bushes.

As it happens I have all the parts in the garage to fit the reat brakes off a MGZS (much bigger than any of the Rover ones) to the rear. I'll post you a photo as soon as they are on cos I agree....drum's look rubbish :( :(

That's my point Phil - we all spend on the shiny stuff first. It may be a bit sad but I always look for drum brakes on any modded car - just out of habit.. BTW my 220 turbo had the worlds smallest disk brakes in the world - christ knows how many people crashed them due to brake fade...

You're not wrong there adamm > 220 turbo standard front brake set up is 260mm vented disks with a single floating pot caliper, total naff. My 325mm 4 pot upgrade is a massive difference and will soon have 260mm on the REAR, as per Phil, to balance things up again :)
