Delivery day is nearly here http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif and I'm wondering about a quickshift.
Opinions of those with and without most welcome. Is it worth £240?
Cheers
Iain.

Not worth it in a MY00 IMHO.

It's a personal thing depending on what you're used to. I love it.

When I first got mine (MY99)I thought shift was pretty short, but now I've done a few '000 miles I'm seriously considering it.

I'd wait and see what you think of the standard shift first.

I`ve never understood this quickshift lark ,I mean, you still have to dip the clutch and that takes the same amount of time regardless of how short the throw is on the gearshift.

DavidRB 25 January 2000 06:03 PM

Moz, shortening the throw reduces the time taken to disengage the lever from one gear and reengage it in another (especially 2nd to 3rd).

Dipping the clutch & backing off the throttle just makes the gearbox last longer. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Got my '00' with quickshift last week.

Apparently, as scooby very regulars tell me, it is really a 'shortshift' not 'quickshift' gear change.

In my case it is not quick, and moving into 1st / 2nd when cold it could even be known as 'noshift.'

Think I might get it looked at.

Ed

Nice when it is warm but I've never experienced anything else. ( The gearchange that is!)

It seems to me that the action of the MY00 gearshift is plenty quick enough for the weight of the flywheel. Even without the quickshift I can easily change too quickly and re-engage before the revs have dropped. Perhaps I need a lighter flywheel...

(I didn't seem to be able to do this on my old Saab)

My first Scoob was a UK spec and it didn't have it - my current one does - the only significant difference I can find is 1st to 2nd - but still I would prefer it rather than not having it.

Confused !!! - you will be

EdwardH

I reckon there is a computer software type confirmation on this mechanical device , ie for safety's sake "are you sure you want 1st gear?", another shove produces "do you really want to quit the current settings?" and finally "It is now safe to move into 1st".

I find it gives me an adrenalin kick and focusses my mind, but I don't think it is faulty.

All sounds so familiar... Have the same issue with first gear when the car is moving at all. Luckily I don't end up with a crash, as I do with my computer
