Headlight not working

The offside headlight has been intermittent since I got car back but would come on if I gave it a little bang.
it's now not coming on with a bang.
I've taken a photo of the wiring.
I've only had chance to look in the dark.
Any ideas from the pic.
Cheers

Is that earth loop meant to be there?

stamina_daddy 10 December 2023 05:45 PM

Red wire is chaffed as well but not broken.
need to have a good look in the day but doesn't stop raining.......

nicam49 11 December 2023 10:37 PM

Could it just be that the bulb itself has a bad filament?

Gambit 12 December 2023 09:02 AM

That earth shouldn't be there it should be secured. being unsecured is why it works intermittently and then hitting the headlight a thump makes it work...as it makes a connection again

stamina_daddy 12 December 2023 09:07 AM

Could well be,I just assumed if the bulb was gone it was gone like a house bulb.
not changed a car bulb in donkeys .
Cheers

for that we'd need to know the year & model of your car

stamina_daddy 12 December 2023 04:32 PM

05 WRX wagon...are they h4 bulb?
so does that ring on the earth wire need to get cut off and a spade type connector added?
Why would they do what they did.....

Gambit 12 December 2023 04:39 PM

They look like H1 bulbs assuming your 05 WRX is a blob eye with halogen headlights

the earth is meant to be bolted somewhere else, dont cut it off and put a spade on it

@Don Clark might be able to pinpoint where the earth point is for it

Back from where had it been in an accident. If so leave it back in. The positive wire appears to be getting hot to due to the bad connections.

stamina_daddy 12 December 2023 05:00 PM

I owned the car before.
did all the mods.
Bought it back recently after 6 years and 17k miles.

Looks as if the bulb connection is a bit of a mess and needs the wires re-terminating on it and the earth to the bolb holder.

Cheers don.....drove myself crazy today looking for the earth spade terminal on that picture..... couldn't see it thought must of been snapped off.
only to realise later that your picture is upside down 👇😀😂.
Went back out with a spade connector but it was too loose for the terminal, must be specific.
Ended up stripping end of earth wire and putting it under one of the Phillips screws for now.
light now working.
