Which exhaust backbox ?
Hello ... I write from Italy
I would like to buy a new exhaust backbox for my Subaru Impreza WRX STI 2004 Year Currently my exhaust system is composed by Downpipe + centre pipe 2,5" (non resonated and without Catalyst) and backbox made by Italian firm "Inoxcar" This type of backbox is street approved in Italy but for this reason the exhaust sound is too anonymous I would like to obtain the tipical "subaru burble " but not too loud Afterburner (Thyphoon and Vortex) great reviews but I think availables only with tailpipe ø4,5" .....this size is too big for me.... I would prefer tailpipe ø3,5" or ø4" Cobra sport availabe with tailpipe 4" but its sound dont excite me For this reason I think that Scorpion "SSUB004" may be ok for me but which is your opinion about the sound ? is really similar to Backbox Proidrive PPP ? Any others alternatives for me ? Thank you in advance and sorry for my bad english  |
All depends what you want? If you just want a low deep burble nothing to big then scorpion or Prodrive, Scorpion made the Prodrive exhaust, so won't be much difference in sound. I know the Prodrive is OEM approved for places like Germany. No clue about Italy though.
If you want really loud then I think vortex is what your after, not sure if these are approved for your country's road use though. What down pipe and Centre do you have? |
Currently in my car we have DP e Centre (free) 2,5" "Supersprint" with Backbox "Inoxcar" with straight tailpipe ø100
Consider that I would like to change my backbox especially in order to get a better burble (low engine rpm) I' dont want ears bleeding on the highway:D and not even being chased by the police:facepalm: Some of you have got to hear the new Aferburner Thypoon Backbox ? Looks like old "Ninjia 2" but I can not find any video about it I believe it is quieter than Vortex type but I hope deeper than my actual Backbox in your opinion for better subaru sound it is better to keep free central pipe in combination to a not more aggressive backbox or provide a worse back box in combination with a resonated central unit? Thank you in advance |
On one of mine I have full 3" setup, with no resonator in the Centre pipe, sports cat down pipe. Sounds very deep sound.
Other Impreza has Prodrive back box no Centre resonator and sports cat sounds nice and deep, not as deep as 3" system though. You could go sports cat and Prodrive back box, can't comment on new votex I'm afraid. |

Ninjia 2 looks very similar to Afterburner Thyphoon .. May be Thyphoon the new backbox that replaced it (with similar sound)? |
Are they legal for Italy?

In Italy only 10-15% of Impreza fit a legal backbox Fortunately, I use this car only for fun and for this reason I am willing to take a little risk The important thing is not to exceed too much with the noise Afterburner backbox are legal in UK ? |
Sounds like Prodrive is your option. What downpipe did you say you have?
