I've just bought a nice R5GTT tonight, mint with 1 owner from new, 39K miles, blah blah.. you get the picture. The seller had had the car for 12 years and pampered it from new.

He was almost crying as I drove off. He kept talking to me for ages while I had the engine running, trying to get away.

Problem is that I know how he felt, with all of my cars I build a bond and I hate to see them go. My last Impreza turbo was sold to a dealer and I felt guilty leaving it all on it's own at the forecort, as I drove off in my new car.

I blame this on too much loving care and attention that I lavish on them. I get carried away washing the cars, watching the silky white bubbles flowing over the body work as I caress the paintwork.

Does anyone else empathise with this? Or are you all hard nosed b@stards when it comes to buying and selling?

I know exactly what he means, seeing someone else drive in off in what had been MY car made me feel gutted, teh onlything thing that cheered me up was the pending scooby the next weekend! :D

Tis gonna break my heart seeing my scoob being driven away :(

Same story for me - I sold my 94 WRX on Monday! The worst thing was, I have never heard the car drive off as I have always been driving and it sounded fantastic as the guy accelerated away....Blitz exhaust etc.

Oh well I got a good price, but suffering in a Micra for a couple of months better be worth it.... now should I get a WRX or STI UK ....;)

I guess you mean a Jap one....mmmmm.....there is one 6 miles from me for £19995 and I think it has very low miles....but only a CAT 2 Alarm????? tempting though!

Yeah stuff it - get the Cat 1 and Tracker fitted then ENJOY :D DO it!!!!!!!! NOW!!!! ;)

Three of my old cars are all now owned by people who live within 9 miles of my gaff, and i see them about quite regular - gutted. The worst thing is that one of my best mates owns my old 1.9 GTI, so i get to see him drive away quite often.
Of course i always come to the natural conclusion - I DRIVE A SCOOB.
Problem solved!

as long as i get the money i want you could crush it on the drive once you've bought it.

I will be picking up a new WRX today. We had an old Cavalier SRI that was looking at ending up being crushed due to being worthless.

When I told my wife this she was nearly in tears and frantically phoned everyone we knew to see if they wanted it.

My brother ended up taking it off my hands much to my wifes delight.

Got to agree though after 8 years of starting first time everytime and no major faults I would of been gutted to see it crushed.

Imagine me in 3 years when I trade in the Subaru.........

I've had that 'leaving it behind on the forecourt' guilt - it's not a nice feeling at all :(

I was gutted to see my one go, still miss it.

ANd as i have not yet found the right westy, i have a nice buss pass in replace of my scooby.

Only previous car I've been sad to see go was my old Corrado VR6. Couldn't give a stuff about the Polos, Golfs, Renaults, Audis etc....

Now, if & when the Scoob goes, that'll be a different matter. Unless it's being replaced by a MY05 STi 10 (or whatever!).

I always seem to write mine off.

Saddest moment was selling the Mk2 1600 Sport for the house deposit
prior to getting hitched (just a few years ago now!). Next up was the time my 16v GTI went to a London dealer only for him to have it stolen a few days later - I felt responsible !!!!!

These days my attachment is waning (even with the P1), as since I`ve started competing in the Golf that`s where I get my kicks !

i sold my opel manta i240 to a bloke from leeds, didnt really care at the time. spoke to him on the phone, he told me hed changed the uprated suspension id fitted for some cheap springs, started to miss it then, even though i part exd the my 97 scoob i had at the time for a p1, still dearly miss my first manta , went to the scrapyard after i stripped it

I've been over to the R5 sites and told them what I'd bought. Now someone has offered me lots of money for it and it may have to go. trouble is that it's such a great car that I've got attached to it already. I'm sad I know.

I've just driven the car for the first time and I'm amazed by the performance and handling, the power comes in so smoothly and so early that it puts my Impreza to shame. The handling is good too, very pointy and it has a stuck to the road feel. You feel that you could really chuck this little car down country roads with confidence. The only thing lacking is the power steering and ABS.

Sorry Floyd, I fall under the 'Hard Nose' brigade. Before the Scoob (and a couple of Clios) I had a wonderful Mini 1275GT. Great car (after a few engine/gearbox mods) - went like stink (and, better sill, FELT like you were going like stink!), but when it came to trade-in time I just walked away!

Just look at each selling as a buying of a new adventure!!

I've just bought an MY98 wagon, UK model, and the '91 Carina E it replaces is still on the drive with a years MOT on it. I can't seem to get round to advertising it.
Bloody pathetic.
I'm bloody useless at selling cars.

I only really get attached to a car, if I have made it special in one way. Like Jamesa, I had a Mk2 that started out as an 1100, but ended up as a 145mph monster that could come off slipraods at a ton. It was old, id had it on and off the road for 6yrs and I needed to save for a house.

Strangely enought I had a 5GTT until recently and modified it myself using my own blend of retail and home specified parts to go a 13.6qtr. When the £800 hybrid blew a few months later I sold it to a Tuner who took off things like the large big brakes and wheels, slapped on a bigger turbo and got a 12.6 to beat the uk record. It looked so bad when he'd finished I didnt mind that hed changed the registration as it didnt look like my car anymore.
I was a bit upset though when they claimed credit for ALL the mods and styling on the car though.
