Would this fit

Would this fit the forester sti?

May as well stock up on goodies while looking for one.

if your talking the later 2004> SG9 STi then possibly not

Don Clark 06 May 2022 05:19 PM

Would depend if you are going to get an "SF" model Forester STi or an "SG" model Forester Sti

2002 "SF" SF5 2.0L Forester STi (Revision "D")

you don’t need it , cut out some of the snorkel in the offside front wheel well , not only more power as it’s getting colder air , but you also get a bit of sensible turbo noise , sounds a lot better , you just blank the hole from the well to engine bay , different levels of cutting and removing sections gives you more or less noise , this is based on a sg fsti or likely any sg 👍

225/40/18 good tyres ie vredestien handling improved plus an easier size to get hold of and cheaper , coilover bc work well or tein , a remap via a good mapper , a splitter in the bonnet scoop as it spreads to air better over the intercooler , ebc yellowstuff or black diamond predator pads and you are sorted 👍plus a cat 1 alarm

jaygsi 10 May 2022 12:20 PM

By cutting it, how do you get colder air?

air is sucked in from the bumper not the engine bay

jaygsi 10 May 2022 02:09 PM

Yes that's what it does, but how would cutting it help?

the snorkel is restrictive in air flow , cut it down better air flow , as it it was a cone filter , it sucks in cold air as it’s coming from the bumper , the normal air intake sucks from the engine bay so sucks in warm air

jaygsi 10 May 2022 11:24 PM

In what way do you mean cut it down though? I'm looking at it and struggling to workout in what way you'd be cutting it down?

from your photo , is the top of the photo where it’s joins onto the air filter box in the car through the inner wing hole , if it is the top you simply cut away some of the plastic at the bottom of the photo , cut a bit off take it for a drive and see the noise difference , i have the two brackets left on mine , and i’ve cut quite a lot of the lower plastic away , cut too much and it maybe too noisy for you , the snorkel is designed to reduce turbo noise , so cut bits out till you get to the stage you want it 👍

Yea I understand that it reduces noise, I was going to remove it sometime ago, and replace with a straight through pipe, but someone on the thread pointed out that the snorkel is designed to not let water get into the engine.

So this put me off removing it. Will have to try find the thread, unless they were thinking of this kind of snorkel :lol1:

Hopefully this one as and when one comes to auction

Vxr2010 11 May 2022 11:21 AM

reduces noise plus adds a flow restriction , i would not cut it totally away and would not remove all of it , one of my Fsti had a pipe from the bumper vent to the wing airbox intake , i did remove that , with the pipe there if i fid hit a big puddle it would direct it to the airbox via the pipe not a good idea , second Fsti just cut the original snorkel down , the chance of getting water in is slim , im not looking to go wading , some of the pipe facing downwards rather than facing forward sounds like a better idea , the snorkel mod plus the bonnet scoop splitter does help with better flow

jaygsi 11 May 2022 10:05 PM

Right so your saying if I use a pipe instead will just channel water directly into the air filter box?

no , don’t use a pipe as if you hit water higher chance of it going into the air filter via the pipe , if you have the cut section of snorkel hanging down it’s not a straight line from the bumper , so water should not get in 👍

jaygsi 11 May 2022 10:13 PM

Ok, will give it a look over. I wish there was a kit that could make use of one of those vents on top.

Without letting any water get into the filter.
