OSR turret rust

Hi all,

2007 Hawkeye. Having recently had an MOT, I was told by the garage about some rust on the OSR turret (not an advisory)
It's the vertical section which goes down and joins to the wheel arch.

I cleaned it up best I could - bit tight in there with the damper and spring still fitted, but managed to wire brush it. The seam sealer where the panel meets the arch just fell off. I think the seam sealer failed and has let the rust set in. The below treatment should starve it of oxygen....for now.
I couldn't get the fuel pipe cover off, one bolt snapped, and the upper bolt I think will do the same, but I will get to that and see what horrors are behind it.

I didn't get any after pictures as it was getting late by the time I finished.

Everything from inside the boot looks ok...for now :lol1:

2 coats of Bilt Hamber Hydrate 80
2 thick coats of Isopon primer
3 thick coats of Stonechip paint
Loads of Threebond 1215 over the seams and the whole area.

Thanks dude, it's either just in time....or Justin Bieber lol

Doing the other side now, no way as advanced, but has all the identical hallmarks - but nipping it in the bud. Same treatment as above.
It's the factory seam sealant that goes brittle, splits away from the seam / surface and allows the damp to work it's magic. To be fair though, the sealant is 15 years old, but it's clearly been failing for a while now, 3 to 4 years perhaps.

The dirt and crud I've got out of the arch lips towards the front is insane, it was coming off in 4 inch long chunks.
I've got some Bilt Hamber Dynax UC coming, I'll be using that soon to help protect everything - and best time of year to do it.

Get under your rear arches peeps, it's happening to Hawks now, not just classics / bugs....
