P0244

I posted a while ago, been going through an investigation with the finance company who financed my 08 WRX hatch.
They’ve decided that there’s no evidence of any mechanical faults with the car, which is utter BS. Now it’s up to me to prove it by getting the EML a codes to pop up again and get a report from a VAT registered garage. However, I’m a little worried it may not be the best idea for the engine so I’m looking for advice.
First of all, I had a cambelt and water pump done and that seems to have solved the P0011 code, the guy said the belt hadn’t been fitted correctly by whoever did it last (dealer never provided any evidence of this, even though the finance requested it).
He did say, the light would probably come back (it did, on the way home) and said it was due to the car needing a remap? The code was P0244, which seems to be a wastegate actuator fault? Now i need to work out why. According to the guy who did the work, he thinks the Cat has been smashed out (which would mean I was sold it illegally anyway, so could be a way of going). The car has what looks to be a cosworth intake with cone filter and a powerflow exhaust, but no visual evidence of any other mods.
The main question is, should I give it a blast and see if it throws the code again, or am I risking blowing something up? And if it does keep throwing this code, am I right in thinking this wouldn’t be solved by a remap?

remap might solve it, however you might be better initially trying to put as much back to standard as possible, certainly if those mods have been fitted without a remap it may well be causing issues.

I would think Matty could supply you with at least a OEM airbox for not much cash and go from there.

If its back to standard as much as possible it is a good base to work from.

Havent used the site for a long time, no idea who Matty is? OEM airbox would probably be a good idea anyway, as the induction noise is ridiculous. What sort of cost are they?
I was also thinking maybe a sports cat but as I said in another post a while ago I don’t know where to find that either. Seems like a minefield looking for parts?!

a simple emissions test would clarify if the car is MOT legal........

I’m almost sure it isn’t, Alyn. This was the MOT, a couple of days before the last..

Is it original OEM 2 port?
Have you looked at it; does it work; does it need cleaning?
If all else fails replace.

I don’t know how to check. But from what I was reading, it might be a waste of time anyway changing it as it is more of an issue with the port size? Also having trouble finding one anyway, tried ICP and they said the only place would be Subaru themselves.

stockcar 20 January 2022 04:00 PM

last time I checked there were far more people than ICP supplying genuine Subaru parts ;)

might even have a s/hand one off a modified car to hand but sure MattyB would......

If I can work out whether it’s in good/bad condition, I’ll know if I need one. If I do, I’ll give you a shout, Alyn. I think I probably need to try and prove the cat isn’t a cat before I do anything else, although I’m not hopeful I’m getting anything out of the finance company.

find an MOT station and ask them to perform an emissions test.........this will tell you instantly if the Cat is in place and operative

you will spend a few quid but also have a print out to show Finance Company if required

Can't assist with your query but you may already know this. If a finance company is involved you have the financial ombudsman who could fight your corner as well as trading standards.
