Sadly the rust has inevitably appeared on the rear arches. The good news though is I’ve got the replacement arches, inner arches and new sills already to sort it out ;)

Its fun to memorize all the beloved cars, or one car, that you had, but then you'll count also your own age and wonder how fast time flies...

I love this and I aspire to follow in your footsteps!

I have owned my Impreza since new and I have no intention of getting rid of it. Ordered it when I was 28 and I am coming up to my 45th birthday soon. Typing that really does sound strange as I haven't owned a car for more than 3 years at the most before this. Mine has been well cared for as well with a list of services as long as my arm and the one SORN due to a gearbox issue I couldn't afford to fix at the time. I could have got rid of it at that point, but it is part of the family so saved up and got it back on the road.

It still needs a few jobs doing, usual suspension knocking and could do with a few new bushes and a wheel refurbishment, but it is in fantastic shape and is almost at 100,000 miles now. Rust seems to be kept at bay as well so far as it spent the first 14 years of its life in a garage, divorce and a new home has forced it outside for now though, not happy about that really.

In the New Year I plan on spending a few quid on it, new discs and pads, maybe refresh the front bearings and considering a full suspension refresh since I have rear knocking once again. I may even go mad and get a new splitter for it.

I think some people find me mad throwing money at the car all the time, but in my mind I have owned it for near 16 years and it cost me £16,000, so a grand a year for such a car seems cheap as chips, not including maintenance of course.

Well done mate and keep it up!

Much bigger than a small part Alyn

Remember the day you fixed the fuel line with V Power running down your arm. That was service over and above ;)

Great to hear your story and not dissimilar !

I paid 23k for mine and had it 22 years so just over 1k a year. I don’t spend money on it to get it back it’s to keep the smile on my face :)

Mines part of the family also and an ongoing scenario in our house is whichever of my 2 daughters is being nice to me is told they get the car. As you can imagine this changes on a regular basis :)

That paint finish looks sooo good it makes my mouth water!
That load protector on the rear bumper is a good idea! Where can I get one for my MY99 Sport?

It was an official Subaru accessory. I bought it about 20 years ago so have no idea if they still sell them. Worth a call though ;)

Wow that looks superb and inspires me with my own 2007 WRX saloon - owned it for 14 years and been refurbishing it over the last couple of years with Superpro front LCAs and ball joints, new suspension bushes at rear round, new dampers, top mounts, steering rack bushes, new clutch, brake hoses, refurbed alloys, Bilt Hamber/Dinotrol underneath. Still a few things to do but it's really restored it to factory fresh feeling to the extent that it's any excuse to drive it now :)

Can’t emphasise how much I respect you for the ownership of your car. Credit to you mate ❤️

Not much research needed really : when I bought my car in 2000 it came with an accessory brochure ; still got the brochure, but no car.....!

johno01 01 January 2022 06:07 PM

It WAS a very fast car 22 years ago so to see average cars these days with DSG bullsh1t Which are not overly powerful but very quick because of DSG etc....very sad 😞
